A Memphis man was arrested in Southaven Mississippi recently and died in police custody. An autopsy revealed he had smoked marijuana and dropped LSD prior to his death. An attorney has stated blatantly that "drugs don't kill."

The man, a veritable angel according to family, had attended a concert, where, according to witnesses, he had smoked marijuana and dropped LSD, but "only a small amount, not enough to be lethal."

After leaving the "concert" he was noticed driving erratically and pulled over by the police. He became belligerent and tried to attack the officer. He was subdued, and after more struggle, hog tied. He apparently died in route to a hospital.

Do drugs kill? Just as sure as Ol' Death is waiting!

I'm glad his erratic driving didn't end up in someone's child being killed before he was pulled over. Getting high is one thing, driving that way is another.

Was the guy denied medical attention? The autopsy should say more than 'smoked marijuana and dropped LSD prior to his death'. What exactly was the cause of death? I have never heard of either of those drugs causing death. Too much pot and you pass out. Too much LSD and you go nuts but it would take a massive dose to be fatal, I believe. Something doesn't sound right. I hope there is a little more investigation.

Jimbo: Its telling that the first thing you jump to is the implication that the death was probably due to the actions of the police, rather than to the illegal and abberent behavior of the individual who died. Unless something is discovered which specifically shows police misconduct I am comfortable assuming that the individual's own poor decisions led to his demise.

He broke a number of laws, he put others at risk, including the LE officers that had to deal with him. These are the facts.

My daughter once had a boyfriend who used LSD in a high-rise condo on the Gulf Coast and decided he could fly.

To argue that drugs didn't kill him would be foolishness.

Incidentally, the fact that I didn't know at the time that this adult construction worker was picking up my fifteen year old daughter in the middle of the night is probably why I'm not in prison. Good riddance!

General opinion is that the cause of death was stupidity.

I've done both in my younger days (youthful folly) but the last time was over 40 years ago. They, like alcohol or pills, can put you in states that are hard to predict. Being high can certainly make it easier to get into all kinds of trouble but mj and lsd alone are not lethal. There are many drugs that can directly lead to death.

The boy may have had died as an indirect result of intoxication and/or had some "help". Fighting with cops is very stupid and can lead to injury or death.

If the kid had a heart condition and died after being arrested because of lack of medical attention how would some of you feel then?

Supposed it was an older man? When police put someone into custody they have a responsibility to render medical aid when necessary. To talk about anyone like they are trash, without knowing all the circumstances, is unfair at best.

Either one ALONE might not have been lethal,
but it's obvious the combination was.

So, now will someone come out and say he had taken carefully measured doses of whatever drugs? BS is easy to find in these arguments. You find it by the smell.

I would pretty much agree with this. Most of the people I associated with during my misspent youth would smoke marijuana myself included. I never did LSD because I didn't want to. I observed others that took it & it didn't appear to be my idea of a good time. I never knew anyone to overdose on either one though. The thing is even though the chemicals themselves might not kill you they might influence you to do something stupid enough to kill yourself. After I had stopped drinking I spent some time trying to work with others that wanted to stop & asked for help. It can be very interesting dealing with someone under the influence of alcohol & drugs. There is really just no telling what reality someone is in. We would always try to have at least 2 people when undertaking such an endeavor.

LE officers are not ER technicians. Back to the facts, then to the witnesses, also at said event, and suspect, and not professionals of any kind. If you are worried about your're well being, stay at home and do not violate a number of laws, then blame someone else for you're mishaps. If in public, and breaking laws, bad things may happen.

You obviously have no feel for the OP. Bob Wright would not see anyone, gladly dead. Try again.

It's telling I hope that I don't jump to conclusions or judge people I don't know. I did not imply the police did anything wrong.

Oh, you most certainly did. "Was he denied medical attention?"

If you weren't implying that the police possibly denied him medical attention, who, then? His fellow concert goers?

Methinks you're trolling yet again.

If you are proposing waiting for more facts to come out, then do so before posing "what ifs".

I feel from the OP's tone that he's glad the kid is dead.

Let's get one thing straight~I take no pleasure in the death of anyone. Death is a tragedy to those left behind, of sorrow and often hardship.

As to this "kid" he was in his late thirties, married and father of two children. Two young children who will grow up without a father, without some stability in their lives.

He did a stupid thing ~ taking recreational drugs ~ now his surviving family must bear the thoughts of that thoughtless act.

But the part I find most unpleasant is the attitude of the lawyer, ready to thrust blame on somebody, anybody, else, rather than the one totally responsible.

BAAA WAAAA HAAA HAAA HAAA HAAA HA;
Gonna tell another one of those wild ones?? I could use another good laugh !!!!

Also there is NO TELLING without an autopsy WHAT OTHER ILLEGAL drugs he may have ingested while under the influence of the two named items. There is ALSO NO TELLING IF the LSD OR even the MJ was contaminated with other substances. I understand THAT is not a RARE occurrence.

So why are you speaking of the LEOs as if they were trash? Maybe they did render medical aid. You don't know all the circumstances and are being unfair at best.

All of which changes nothing in my original post.

Like it or not, that's his job. The family will be suing the Police for wrongful death, so of course he will blame them..........Seems to autopsy will reveal more info
