steel ejector housing

just picked up a blackhawk 45 conversion the stock aluminum housing is beat up pretty good thinking of putting a steal one on wondering what brand people have had good luck with and what are the advantages disadvantages of one or if I should stick with the stock one?

I'd see if you could get one form Ruger. If not try Midway USA or Brownells. IMHO just stay away from MK Technologies, I have had nothing but poor fit and finish on their ERHs and have returned them to the supplier.

I personally like the Al Story/Borchardt Rifle ERH.

You can get them thru Brownells or Borchardt Rifle too, $25 is a good price too.

BUT as with everthing out there some like them and some don't.

I just put one on a .45 convertible 4 5/8 - fit and finish were perfect, and the extra weight adds noticeably to the heft of the barrel.

I just received my steel Ruger made unit from Brownells and will install it after work in the morning. Mine is going on a 4 5/8" Blackhawk. Anything tricky about the installation? I intend to use blue Locktite.

Nothing tricky, just be sure to de-grease the hole well, and it only takes a small amount of the locktite on the threads.

You might also consider changing your aluminum grip frame to a steel unit. You'll pick up a few ounces and it will look better and the bluing can be touched up if it wears. A used grip frame is relatively inexpensive and usually fits up pretty well. An un-fitted one from the factory involves some work, but you can do it with hand tools. (Flatgate has some good "how-to" posts that will help you.)

I install either DRAGOON or HUNTER grip frames on the Original Size VAQUEROS that I acquire....The factory XR3-reds are too small for my hands. I've sold my used ones with grips pretty quick and recouped some of the cost. I think the stainless grip frame looks good on a blued gun...I'd like a brass DRAGOON, but they are way out of my price range.

Yes, that's high on my list for my gun too. The gun was a great deal at a local gunshow but the aluminum stuff was in not so great shape. The actual gun itself is really good from the standpoint of blueing etc.
The gripframe looks like it has "orange peel". Like a not so good paint job on a car!
