Hi folks. Been out of the Ruger loop for a while now and have been collecting M52 Winchesters and Smith and Wessons. These three guns are holdovers from my previous collection. I know they are scarce, but can someone, who has a book, tell me the production numbers on these?
Top KS-4 Star shipped 1-75. Middle KS-9 Star shipped 11-74, and the bottom 9 1/2" blued "Star" from 1975. Thanks, Big Larry

Don't think Ruger releases production numbers. Best source of info I've found is RENE.

Thanks all. I have been thinking about a refinish job on the SR-9 as it is a beater, but I am not a fan of reworks and this revolver hits 10 for 10 steel plates at 50 yards. The KS-9 is N.I.B. Although I have maybe 50 handguns, lots of K Smiths, Colts, and others, that KS-4 is my favorite handgun. I would never part with it. Thanks, Big Larry

Nice trio there Larry. I recently acquired a KS-4 with original box etc. The seller had a buy it now of $500. Needless to say, I couldn't hit that button fast enough! Been meanin to get some pics of it and some of it's cousins posted when I get around to it.

Also, if I'm not mistaken (and I could be), the KNR-9 numbers are lower than the KS-9, making the convertable actually rarer. Maybe Chet could chime in on that as well?

The convertable does have a lower production figure. I had a minty one and sold it a while back. You did well on your KS-4 purchase. I would have jumped on it as well even though I paid only $300 for mine at auction. No box though and that makes a big difference. It is a great shooter and I had a beautiful holster and belt custom made for it, but a recent purchase of a S&W M63 has kind of overshadowed it. I generally carry one or the other on my 4 wheeler in a crossdraw rig. Thanks, Big Larry

Larry,
KS-4 = 900
KS-9 = 2400
SR-9 = ?? I'm guessing less than the KS-9,,, Maybe Chad will chime in with a number.
All info RENE.

I don't have a good estimate for the S-9 as far as production quantities. The stainless guns were much easier to tell as they were all made in blocks, with the star marked KS4's mixed with the convertible KNR4 and the same for the stainless 9's. Problem with the blue guns is that represents most of the production in 1974 and 1975. I'm sure the S9's are in their own blocks also, but with the NR9 as well I'm sure. Would be just about impossible guessing a number other than to say they are really scarce.
The stainless 4's and 9's also had one thing going for the...."Bragging factor", because Ruger had never made them before, nor since except for Lipsey's recent run of stainless 4's, they stick out like a sore thumb. So far more sn's have been reported on those early stainless 4's and 9's than the blue S9's.

Mine's a shooter as well as it isn't exactly mint. They really do "shine" don't they? :D

I shoot the rarer blued gun, but the KS-9 remains N.I.B. and I will never shoot it. I shoot the KS-4 also and it shoots better than my S&W K22 Combat Masterpiece. Recent purchases of a couple S&W M617's have precluded my shooting of the Rugers. These guns are hard to beat. Big Larry
