I scored one over the weekend for $295.It looks like its never been fired. One little rub mark on the lower.
How common are stainless models?I seem to recall seeing more blued guns than stainless guns.

Well this one has a tapered bolt.Serial is 217-56xxx.It appears to have been made near the end of production at the Connecticut factory.

Okay, let's try this. Which barrel does it have?

5 1/4" tappered target
6 7/8" tappered target
4" bull
5 1/2" bull
6 7/8" bull
6 7/8" slab side
10" tappered bull

Of those, which one is the most desirable? Most rare? Most common? I have two of the slab sides, I think they must have been pretty common. Thanks, Ed.

You did well! I have bunches of Mark IIs, but one of my favorites is my 6 7/8" heavy tapered target. It just feels right in my hand and is extremely accurate. Hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine.

6 7/8 Target has long been a favorite.Lately I've been grooving on a LITE.Its my current favorite.
I always thought the 6 7/8 Target felt so much better balanced than the 5.5 bull.

Absolutely my favorites That is a good price on the stainless 678. :)

Desirability, of course, is in the eye of the beholder. If we just consider stainless MKIIs and how fast they sell on the auctions, they're all desirable. The most rare would be the 4" followed by the 5 1/4". I believe the 5 1/2" would be the most common. I don't know how the middle models would be ranked but Ruger made a LOT of MKIIs.

Your slab sides are pretty common and desirable. It's on my short list along with the 5 1/4".

Best-balanced MKanything out there. If they had a stainless MKIII like it, I wouldn't have bought my Hunters and GC. It weighs as much as the 5.5 bull barrel, but you have a much better sight radius and balance. The fact it's stainless makes it icing on the cake; at least for me it would have.

Congratulations!

Thanks for the reply Highstandardguy. I keep an eye out for all MKII's listed locally. The prices are really climbing here in Mass. The MKII's are no longer Mass compliant so they can't be sold here. Which makes the MKII's even more desirable. Ed

I've had my 6-7/8" tapered SS Mark II since 1991 and it has to be my favorite pistol. I've since acquired a couple Mark III hunters (short and long barrel) but the MKII has the best balance feel.

You did well on the purchase...I'd buy them all day long at that price and condition.

Enjoy
