SS Blackhawk 45 Colt

I'm going to check out a excellent condition SS Ruger Blackhawk 4 5/8 in 45 Colt tomorrow ..I've been looking for a BH 44 Mag. 50th.anv. but not had any luck locally ,figured i maybe able to trade this one...

What do you fellows think of a SS BH 45 Colt with a 4 5/8in barrel ?

I love those short barrel stainless Blackhawks. A few years ago I saw one at a local shop in .45 Colt for a really reasonable price. I passed on it because I was saving up for something else, but now that they're no longer catalogued, I kind of wish I'd bought it.

If this one you're looking at turns out to be good condition and good price, I think you'd better make it yours!

There's only one caveat: .45 Colt is not a good cartridge for those who only shoot factory loaded ammo. If you make your own ammo, it's great; otherwise, I'd stick with the 44 Magnum.

I've handloaded 44 Mag. in the past and hndload for 444 Marlin at this time.I have a BH 50th. in 357 Mag

Seems like i maybe able to pick this gun up for a fairly good price...
And maybe able to trade it around
a BH 50th in 44mag and the barreled bobbedto 4 5/8 is what I really would lean toward...I'm thinking abot picking up one from CDNN ..but most likely will wait after the Christmas rush ..I shipped a gun last Monday and still has not made it...

I happen to have over a dozen 45 Colt Rugers in my bunch. I'm kinda fond of them. I say get one.

Yuppers, I agree completely! I have "one each" (4 5/8 ss Bisley Vaquero & Black Hawk)

Paired with a Marlin 94 Cowboy in 45 Colt, these both get a lot of use in the high desert.

Youall make feel bad I only have 2, 45 colts with 4 5/8" one convertable and one not. but both are favorites and see a lot of use.

Well, Buckeye, I only own one big bore revolver and it is the 4 5/8" in .45Colt. I bought it with the idea I'd learn to relaod (which I have) and also thinking it would be my first, then I'd go shopping for another. At this point, I really have no urge to find another, because I enjoy shooting this one so much. Killed a deer with it this fall, too. I'd buy it and if you don't like it, I bet it will hold it's value!

I highly recommend that model. 45 Colt is really versatile and the 4 5/8" verison packs easily.

Davidson's now has only six. Number seven will join a Blackhawk and a Vaquero in this caliber as well as two other revolvers and a carbine in .45 Colt.

Well I'm picking it up tomorrow...been shot 20 times most likely wore out..comes with box and papers I'll post pics. hopefully tomorrow night or CHRISTMAS eve...

I just had my blued 4 5/8" blackhawk out this morning and was the first time I was using some heavy charges. I didn't know it was capable of such accuracy. Also had a heavier recoil and a nice thump each time it hit the target. I would say you can't go wrong. This gun will be going with me more often in the future. Pick it up and ENJOY it.

I went with 45 Colt instead of 44 magnum because it is actually two cartridges in one. It is a legitimate cowboy cartridge in SAA and clones, and it can be magnumized for hunting or other purposes in a Ruger or similar heavy duty gun. And it is accurate in both types of loading. It also lets me use the same reloading tools and components for both types. All I have to do is change the powder charge.
I use nickled cases for heavy loads and brass cases for standard, SAA level loads. It is just an additional level of safety to help me be sure I haven't grabbed the wrong load for my SAA guns.
