Was looking at a review of the 454 and noticed the muzzle profile was quite different than those usually shown. Could this be an early gun?

Im thinking it has been changed, or maybe a "prototype" I have seen some early guns in person and this is a first,
Curious what/where is the "Review"

Mine with a front sight change. "custom" 1of1 8)

Mine has the little nub sticking out the front with a deep crown like the second picture not flat like the first one. Mine is several years old.

Just curious about the purpose of having such a front sight. It seems unnecessarily long and shortens the sight radius.

The reduction in sight radius is miniscule at best and a minor trade off for a more durable front sight. I'd rather have this sight on my gun if the front sight were to be "bumped" inadvertantly, the wider base would give more stability to the sight. Not to mention that it looks correct, the factory blade looks like an afterthought.
I'd buy one.

Mountain William said it good.

a little history

When I aquired the SRH Alaskan it had a somewhat loose front sight so I set out to design something that would stand up to the rigors and yes definitly something that "looked" correct.

My Son and I share most all of "our" guns, I say most because neither of us wanted to be without out the Alaskan. We now have Alaskans and he won't quite buggin me to get his sight built.

Sight Radius nope EVERYBODY that has shot both in our little test can't tell the difference and prefer the "I of 1" for various reasons.

So a little heads-up FYI for you all, If you want one,,, drop me a line if you want in on the first run.... :D

I like that front sight. Looks to be milled into the rib. Are you selling those? I'll have to look at my Alaskans and see if that would work.

I wouldn't want an Alaskan, but they sure are nice looking guns.

I was watching a movie a couple days ago "Faster" I think it was with The Rock (that wrestler) I'm pretty sure he was using an Alaskan to shoot everyone. Not sure what the plot of the movie was but there wasn't any apparent recoil when he shot the gun.

A good reason to own a Alaskan 454 a guy in Soldotna AK droped a charging 1000# brown with his
