Sr9c slide not racking

I have been seeing alot of people saying that there new SR9c is not racking properly and having trouble with the gun itself! It seems that alot of the people who are saying this have been doing a cleaning once they get home with there new purchase! Is it because they are removing the factory lubricant? I have had no problems with mine at all, when I got mine home I did not do the cleaning that everyone has been saying and so far 250+ rounds have gone throu it without any problems to speak of! I did finally do the feild strip and cleaning after the 250+ rounds, but everything is still working like a champ! What is ya'lls opinion on this, could it be because of the intial cleaning that is causing the problems? Just an idea that seemed to be obvious.

I'm not sure which posts you're referring to, but...I said the slide was hard to rack on mine initially. In fact, it wasn't just hard to rack, it was almost impossible to do so in a conventional grip. Keep in mind that I'm 6' 2", 275 pounds and have big hands and the thing was still a bear to rack.

I read some of the posts on here, stored it locked open for a few days, and went through my 2d 100 rounds at the range and now it's fine. Still stiff, but fine.

I don't believe it has anything to do with cleaning. When I first got mine it was full of a thick, grease-like substance. I would never have fired it or any other firearm with that goop in it.

All seems to be well now.

Same as above. Very hard to rack when new. After several 100 rds it is close to my SR9. Did the same and left it racked for several days. That help alot.

Ok, cool guess I willl rack mine for a few days and see if it makes mine better! Even thou mine was fine from the start! Guess it would not hurt to improve it! Can't wait to hit the range again and run a few hundred more rounds thru it. What do ya'll prefer to lub your Sr9c's with, Grease or Oil? I am thinking of using a high temp grease for my lube. I saw a youtube video on how to clean and lube your Glock from nothnfancy. I thought it was a good idea and seems pretty easy and clean. Thanks. Kurt

Hello all,

I have a SS SR9c that I have put about 400 - 500 rounds through, various weights and manufacturers. I have not had one bit of problem with the pistol. I did give it a thorough clean and lube as described on the "tech videos" that are available on the Ruger website, prior to taking it to the range. As a new gun would be, it was rather stiff at first, but has loosened up after a few range trips.

I guess I will for now on clean my new gun before I shoot it! Since I am looking into the Taurus Millenium Pro 9mm as a second concealed carry. Acutally my wife made an agreement, If I loose 50 lbs in a year i can buy a 2nd concealed carry. (already posted on this forum)

When I got my SR9c new, it wasn't hard to rack at all. It felt normal. As for cleaning, yeah... I cleaned it thoroughly before I dared put a single round through it. The stuff that comes on it is to help keep it from rusting during shipping. It's kind of like cosmoline and should be cleaned off before firing.

After cleaning, I let the striker assembly marinade in break free CLP all night before wiping it down and taking it shooting. The gun handled flawlessly.

Even some of the full size SR9's have been a bit hard to rack when new especially. Seems locking the slide open for a bit and just shooting it helps out a good bit. Remember they packed in 2 springs in tandem on the SR9c to reproduce the force the SR9 needs.
