SR9c problems

I was at the range today and the gentleman next to me was continually 'mumbling' about "this damn thing won't fire." Finally I asked him what the problem was. He said that it simply wasn't firing. He told me to "give it a try." I loaded two rounds in the magazine (that is a trick all to itself as hard as that mag is to load) and inserted it in the gun. I released the bolt and noticed that the mag had dropped down a wee bit. It hadn't picked up the round from the mag. I 'slapped' the mag, recycles the bolt and it fired fine and hit what I pointed it at. The questions are...1. Has anyone else had problems with the mag not locking in? and #2...Are all these magazines such bears to load manually?

I've never had issues with the mags NOT locking in, but they are super tough to load when they are new. I have around 500 rounds through mine and I still use the mag loader that came with the gun. I keep having failure to load issues with mine which could be mag related. My gun is at Ruger right now.

The only time I've had trouble I have accidently hit the release and did get it back in firmly, and yes they are pretty stiff to load for awhile...

I "slap" all mags out of sheer habit. No issues you described, other than I sure wouldn't want to load the mags without the loader. Love the gun, but the hardest thing I've ever had to load the magazines.

I slap mags also, a habit I got from watching my dad I guess. I've never had a round not load in my SR9c that with about 2000 rounds through it so far. yes the mags are stiff at first but they loosen up nicely after a couple of hundred rounds.
