There is an increased "danger" of gunk-collecting any time you overlube a gun...any gun. Nobody disagrees...

I agree.
I would rather a gun "under lubed" than "over lubed".

Of course, the BEST way is to do it correctly to begin with:)

Had 1000 rounds without a cleaning and no problems, so I agree. That said, I took my chances without removing the gunk and had no ill-effects, but I'm in the minority I feel on this one. Ruger ain't the only company to pack the slide full of gunk.
