SR9c First Outing

Took the wife and kids out today to try out her new SR9c. First two shots she fired stove piped. Third shot it didn’t even try to eject the round. Took the gun from her and finished the clip with no troubles.

Second clip my 13 year old daughter tried it out. First few shots went good. Then it started to stove pipe on her.

Third clip my 15 year old son had no issues with it.

I ran several more clips through it with no trouble. My 13 year old nephew wanted to try it and shot it okay for a few rounds then had a no fire. Ejected the round and the primer had a good hole in it. Thought maybe a bad round. Few more shots and then another bad round.

I know my daughter and wife probably had a limp wrist causing the stove pipes. But is there anything I can do to keep it from happening so much?

I did not strip the gun down and clean it from the factory. So tonight that is what I am doing. Maybe that has a lot to do with it.

I consider "limpwristing" a generic term. In the case of your wife and daughter, they may be just holding low on the grip. Have them practice more and make sure they maintain a high grip. I've seen women shooting SR9's and SR9c's with no problems at the range. It being a newer gun, break in will help a bit but shooting a gun enough normally fixes everything.

Yes, the cleaning may help. Be sure to also take out the striker and clean it and it's channel.

Always possible it's the ammo's fault.

Just got done with the cleaning. Thanks to the sticky at the top I took the slide apart and cleaned all the grease out. If I can remember correctly the light strikes come from a spring that measures 1 1/2". Mine was 1 5/8" so I think I have the updated firing spring.

I have put over 500 rounds through mine with zero stove pipes or failure to ejects even shooting diry russian ammo. Stove pipes are 99% due to ammo issues. Limp wristing/grip would relate to failure to fires.

I might be off base... but how would limp wristing/poor grip cause a failure to fire?

The fact that your wife & daughter had a problem, and you and your son didn't indicates operator error. Their grip is incorrect; with the possibility of low grip or loose grip or a combination of both. That would definitely cause a stove pipe.

I wish I could find a video clip I once saw where a guy fires several guns with an extremely loose grasp of each, and causes them to stove pipe every round. The only gun he couldn't make stove pipe was a Sig.
