Hi Guys,

I'm looking at purchasing a pre-owned SR9, however I remember reading over and over again about horrible triggers they had early on.

What improvements have been made to the SR9 since they came out on 2007?

Is there a serial number break, or certain one(s) to watch out for/stay away from?

Thanks in advance!

The best way to spot the older models is the magazine release. The older guns have a round mag release. The newer guns with the improved trigger have a "D" shaped mag release.

Great, Thanks!!

The gun I'm looking at has the round release and has an OD Green Frame which I love the look of.

As I understand it, the OD Green was discontinued in 2010, before the upgraded trigger, so none of the OD SR9's will have the upgraded trigger?

That's too bad.

I have an OD green SR9 with the round mag release that I purchased used in April 2010. It was a March 2009 build and was post recall. While the version with the D shaped mag release is the latest, I would NOT automatically discount an older SR9, as long as the build date is after April 2008, and it has been upgraded. See http://www.ruger.com/SR9Recall/ for more information, along with a link to Jeff Quinn's Gunblast update.

My trigger never did exhibit any grittiness or problems, I love it as is. I would suggest you rethink your concerns and actually work the trigger yourself with a magazine installed. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. If it may need some minor tuning, consider first buffing the surfaces as described in Josh's SR9 How To sticky at the top of the forum.

Aside from polishing internals, you can always upgrade some of them. Galloway Precision has some nice kits to make it better, both for defense and competition.
