I am a new member and a new shooter. I incorrectly posted this question in the new member section. That tells you I am also new to forums! My question- I observed an IDPA match last week and was captivated by the action and the shooters. I have handled (not shot) an M&P Pro, a Glock 19 and an SR9. I have read numerous articles by "experts". My inexperienced opinion is that the SR9 can compete in all areas with the "competitor" weapons. My real question is- how does the SR9 and SR9C compare in accuracy and overall performance at various IDPA shoot ranges?

imho, accuracy wise, I think they are equal in terms of inherent accuracy.
However, the shorter sight radius on the SR9c may make it harder on the shooter when engaging the targets that are farther out, say, the 20 yarders.
This is why you see folks with Glock 34's or other pistols with 5"+ barrels even though most folks don't carry these guns for defensive purposes.
You don't need bullseye accuracy in practical or action pistol. You need a reliable pistol that allows you to run fast while being accurate enough not to get many (any...) points down. If a certain pistol's ergonomics and handling characteristics makes it easier for you to accomplish these things better vs. another... then that's the pistol I would use.
As for how the SR9/9c compares to other guns... I believe it's the shooter, not the gun with just about any decent, quality modern pistol.
If Ruger sponsored someone in IDPA or USPSA practical shooting that is the caliber of a Dave Sevigny or Bob Vogel or Doug Koenig, I'm sure you would see some impressive results with the SR pistols.

I use an SR9c for both IDPA and USPSA... it seems to do pretty well. I haven't used an SR9 in competition, so I couldn't tell you.
I DID overhear a Ruger rep talking at a USPSA match this morning who said something along the lines of "Well, every time I come I have to choose between the glock and the sr9; and the glock wins every time. I mean, if I want to stand a chance of winning, it has to be the glock."
I can't state whether that was truthful experience, or if he's just a glock fan however.

I've been shooting my SR9 in competition for a while. I don't own a SR9c, however.
Going by specs alone, the slightly longer sight radius of the SR9 should give a slight accuracy advantage over the SR9c, particularly on longer shots. I would prefer the larger grip of the SR9 as well.
Capacity won't be an issue because the IDPA divisions to which the SR9/c would belong, SSP and ESP, have a 10-round per mag limit.
The mag disconnect can be a concern. For local club matches, it usually isn't a big deal to shoot without it. However, for sanctioned IDPA matches, you'll have to have it back in, as you're not allowed to disable safety devices. Check w/ your local match director.
As far as competitiveness, I would say the SR9 should be competitive against other guns in the ESP and SSP division in IDPA, probably more so with SSP. I don't shoot IPSC/USPSA, so can't speak for that except to say that it is a different game with different rules for stage designs and how to shoot them.
