Morning all,

Last night I uploaded 2 more videos to my list of how-tos and today I made arrangements to borrow my grandfather's camera...shoots Hi-Def and Hi-Speed as well. Going to try and get all my videos updated with Hi-Def versions and then see about taking a trip to my local range with it to see about getting some Hi-Speed footage maybe tomorrow afternoon. Editing will probably have to be done in my spare time at work as the Hi-Def is too much to handle on my computer at home. My new work machine can handle it easily.

Any requests for videos aside from what's planned for shooting tonight?
Planned HD Shots:
Field Strip
Mag DC Removal
Magazine Breakdown
Internal Component disassembly (FULL, 3 parts I think)
Magazine Latch removal if I have time tonight.

May have to shoot this week and put them online over the weekend....who knows how it'll all end up timing out.

Will be ordering my Ghost Rocket tonight btw.

Josh

Josh,
your videos are great, Thanks for your efforts.

I would like one on how to turn my 7 Rugers into 14

Play the lottery? I've got 3, I'm by no means a gunsmith or a collector, just an average guy with more free time than I need lol.

Josh

Nice videos, J.

I'm thinking about doing one on the removal of the extractor and striker blocker.

But I'm just so lazy.

:D

I mentioned you in my latest video, the Part 5-1 video, mentioned your improvised Bench Block lol.

Lazy is something I use to describe myself often.

I don't think the slide internals are too hard to get out, just some patience and practice first. Still haven't gotten to them though, I've planned on doing it though soon, just need to get past these videos and then move on to the next parts of the SR9 videos I want to do.

I noticed that! Thanks for the bit o' shout out. :)

The extractor/striker block isn't too bad, and it's a good idea to know how to do it if you really want a firm grip on the striker block when doing the fluff-n-buff. The extractor also collects an alarming amount of gunk underneath, which may be apparent when I get off my butt to do the video, even with only a couple hundred rounds through the gun after I last cleaned it.

Guess I need to bump it up in priority ;). I know that mine will be FILTHY. I haven't cleaned underneath it yet at all. Shame YouTube only does 10 minutes of video at once. I may take the time to do a full video with minimal sound/commentary and just speed through the entire gun on a complete detail strip.

I was thinking about filming in a few minutes, as I've gotta clean my gun after putting another 100 or so rounds through it testing my Ghost Rocket.

I can still force a reset failure in dryfire, but no matter how hard I try in livefire, the gun works perfectly with the Ghost Rocket installed, so I'm pretty dang happy with it.

Putting 100 or so rounds through the gun in under 10 minutes gets that sucker HOT.

Good to hear. At work currently. Tried to purchase the Rocket this morning and my card was denied, all my end is in order, so it's on their side. I really want to get out to the range....may do that today and then work on the detail strip afterwards....some SR9 hi-speed footage would be pretty cool....may call my range and see about what they say about filming while I shoot....if anything.

Josh

That happened to me to. Just give arthur a call over the phone and give the card to him verbally. Should work out fine. thanks for the vids

Thanks, will call after work and see if I can get it in process.

Josh

Took some footage of removing the extractor and striker block, but may redo it. I made an embarrassing error and forgot to remove the striker first. Whoops. Looked awful stupid when the striker blocker wouldn't come out of the gun. Then, when I re-shot that, I forgot to be careful when removing the extractor and the striker block literally shot across the room.

However, in the process of cleaning, I also removed my LCI for the first time. Holy crap, a lot of gunk collects in there. I may end up doing a near-complete slide detail strip. I'm not mucking with the sights. I have a couple of spare striker assemblies lying around, so I can show part of that disassembled as well. Unfortunately, I have a bit of a busy week, so may not get to filming until the end of the week, so you may beat me to it, Josh.

:)

Oh if I saved my bad films I'd have about 2-3 hours of me getting about 5 mins into a video and then having to flip off the camera and curse for a few seconds...reset and shoot it all again because I really screwed up a step lol.

Whichever comes first Grendel, I'm in no hurry, I actually forgot I had plans tonight so we'll see what I can get done in a couple hours of shooting.

Josh

So I had my SR9 completely and 90-95% apart today.

Things not completely removed.
Trigger
Trigger Shoe
Striker Plate Retaining Pin/Spring
Striker is still together
Trigger Bar Spring/Retaining Pin
The pin for the LCI didn't get drove out 100%
And I left the sights alone today.

It's still dirty, I left my cleaning gear at my father's place....will be doing that soon ;)....under the LCI and Extractor it's very dirty.

Josh

I've reshot all my videos I think I may have to do one over again. A test shot is uploading and it's private just so I can see what's going on in it. Tomorrow AM I'll be doing some editing to them, my computer can't handle the HD or the Framerates. Bogs down. Will set them to upload after work on my computer and hope they get online by midnight. Low Upload Bandwith vs HD How-To's = lengthy upload times.

Pics of the Strip.

Update on videos.

I'm going to have to take down all the ones I shot last night. :(

Was worried about this, the camera I was using was locked into 60FPS and I couldn't get the framerate down. I didn't want to convert down either, Youtube tries to run them in 720p (what I recorded in) but it's all jumpy and stuff....not fun. May have to see what I can do for a HD option at the standard 30FPS. I hate technical difficulties.

The good news is that I am going to have ALL of the SR9 How-Tos done whenever the camera is setup properly. No issues on getting every aspect of the Gun taken apart....except Sights, the actual trigger and Trigger Bar Spring. Looks like I may be going to Best Buy tonight!

Josh

Took new footage of my near complete slide detail strip and tried editing it in Windows Movie Maker rather than Adobe Premiere Elements, like I normally use. Big mistake. WMM is so choppy on video/audio playback, it's impossible to edit. If I stop feeling aggravated over the whole experience, I may try loading the footage into Premier Elements later.

-JT

Good deal Grendel...I've got my external HDD at work today and while I have some down time I'm going to convert my HD footage from 60fps to 30fps and then upload them from there. I put online the Mag Disassembly video in HD and tested it out at work and it seems fine on my end as long as I'm NOT IN the HTML5 Beta.

Here's a link to the private video for now. Only has limited uses so if a bunch click it and watch it later viewers might not get to see it.

Private Link - Limited Use

If you could use that link and watch it in HD (720p), if you can, and let me know if anything's out of place....jumpy playback, poor sound syncing, etc.

Note that you might not get the HD video to playback if you have limitations with your hardware (CPU speed/cores, Graphics Card capacities). My work computer plays this fine but has a brand new Core 2 Quad core CPU and a dedicated ATI graphics card setup....my home computer has an AMD 64x CPU and no additional graphics support. I'm assuming that's the start of my problems with this. I have my ATI Graphics card on loan to a friend currently.

Josh

Looks good to me, Josh!

I had to let it finish downloading for smooth play, but that's my computer and not your video clip, and it played smoothly with no audio or video hiccups.

If I do bother doing my slide nigh-detail strip, I'll likely film myself doing it for the fourth time. I had to go off camera to put the roll pins back in for the extractor and LCI, which doesn't make for compelling video.

Good job!

-JT

Thanks Grendel, had a string of like 4 videos all in HD set to upload throughout the workday...takes about an hour-fifteen each :(. Was going to lunch at noon and hit the close button....only the Field Strip HD video finished...the Magazine Disconnect failed because of it and now I have to retype all that crap in again. Feels like a Monday.

I have 9 videos going up though now, I have them all exported and ready for uploading. The last 2 are Magazine Release how-to's and Slide Detail Strip. Didn't have any clamps or vises to hold the slide while I tried to put back the pins....made things...um...interesting to say the least. And yes, the Striker Blocker FLIES if your not careful!!

Josh

The roll pins are a real b!tch, but luckily, the right size steel punch works for me. I can't see a brass punch being effective; the pins and tightness of the fit would peen the crap out of brass punches from what I see. Suckers are in there tight, but that's much better than loose.

Yeah, uploading videos to Youtube is a royal PITA. I think you can see more visual progress watching glaciers move.

haha indeed. Mine came out easy enough, used steel punches....was doing the video the first time for the reinstall on the LCI. The pin got in a bind a little and I could not get it to do anything. Was all on camera too lol. Reset it all finally and restarted and did it all on Take 2. Wish I'd done it with a clean gun though....least the watchers know how dirty it can get!

Just upgraded my internet and I've got an upload speed of 1mb/s (sounds puny but original was 256k!!!!).

Am attempting to upload the remaining 6 videos online right now. Should take about 7 hours to finish and they'll be live around 1am, but held from public viewing for now until I can annotate them and make sure it's all gravy.

Look for them to be fully online and viewable with updated links hopefully by tomorrow before 3pm.

Josh

Ok ALL of my SR9 How-To's are online, 9 videos in all, still need to go in and annotate them later after work, but they are viewable and if you halfway know your way around the SR9 already using these should be very easy.

Tell me if I'm speaking too fast, I have a problem with that and I can't for the life of me break that habit.

The standard definition these start in is 360p, they are all able to do 480p and some are in 720p, for some reason the 720 didn't kick in on a few and I'm going to see about that later. May need to re-export and re-upload them this weekend. But for now I think this is a great start and if anyone has any suggestions for other videos please by all means, let me know and I'll see about shooting them.

Part 1 - Field Strip
Part 2 - Magazine Disassembly
Part 3 - Mag DC Removal
Part 4 - Remove Assemblies from Frame
Part 5 - Disassemble the Internal Assemblies
Part 6 - Internal Assembly Reassembly
Part 7 - Frame Reassembly
Part 8 - Magazine Release Removal/Installation
Part 9 - Slide Disassembly
