I noticed the slide release on my newest SR9 with the 331 prefix is exactly that. It releases the slide without any extra effort. I wonder if this is one of the improvements. My older one will not release the slide. I like this newer SR9 more everytime I shoot it. I have always been a 45 fan but I sure am having fun with this 9mm.

The slide release on my 330 SN SR9 has always functioned as such, and it was a 2009 build. Like you, I have tons of fun with the SR9, but my new RIA M1911A1 FS has got me hooked on 45. It's also gotten me into reloading for both calibers, so I can have even more fun for less pocket gingle.

The slide release on my new SR9c is pretty tight. Hard to release just by pushing it down. But I like it that way. I hardly ever use the slide release and so I prefer it to be rock solid and not disengage when I set the gun down or bump it.

I have always been a weenie and never used my slide stop as a slide release, so I never felt disappointed. I just trained myself that way with the gun and that was that.

Having said that, it would be interesting to have some side-by-side pictures of the mechanism on a 330 vs. a 331 vs. an SR9c vs. an SR40 and see if there are any real substantive differences.

I've already posted a thread that documented some engineering changes in progress, maybe this was one of them. I'll try to take some pics. of my 330-62XXX slide stop internally tomorrow, then maybe others can compare what they have inside their pistols.

Mine has the angle that makes it a lock more than a release.

I have a strong thumb so I am able to release the slide without much trouble. I have found that it releases easier with a loaded magazine then with an empty one. I wonder if that is real or perceived, but it doesn't matter to me.

Real. The slide-lock is pushed up by the follower in the magazine, adding additional resistance when you push it back down with an empty mag. This little bit of force might make the difference between "easy" and "moderate" for some people.
