Hey guys! New to the forum. I have a few questions on my Ruger SR9 I just purchased. I had about 150 rounds through it flawlessly today at the range. My friend wanted to shoot it. On his second shot the slide jammed on the gun with a live round in the chamber. It took a minute but we got the jam cleared. I put another 25 rounds or so though it with no issues. Should I be overly concerned about that jam or just consider it part or the breaking in process? After getting the jam cleared I pulled the trigger with the slide locked open. Any chance I did any damage? Thanks guys!

I doubt you did any damage to the gun, is this gun new or used? I've never had a jammed slide with my SR9 but things may happen. It is funny that you had no issues at all but your friend did, is he a new shooter? I would clean the gun and lube it and run it again at the range, see what happens. The SR9 is a good and very reliable pistol, if it still has problems let Ruger know but I'm really surprised you have any issues with it at all.

Brand new. I bought it 2 weeks ago. He is a fairly experienced shooter. I didn't see exactly what happened because I was shooting his 357 at the time. I was shocked that it jammed. Up to that point, I had no issues what so ever. I haven't cleaned it yet. That is getting done tomorrow. I have heard that if I have a problem Ruger will take care of me, I really hope that is true..

Thanks man! I love it so far. It is very accurate and feels great in my hand. I hope this is a one time thing, because it is a great gun!

Give her a GOOD cleaning and a little love and she'll play nice.....

Congrats, on your new SR and welcome to the family...

Mine had a few stove pipes the first time out shooting some reloads I bought at a gun show. I had not cleaned it proir to that outing. It has not done that since the first cleaning. It has close to 1,300 of mostly WWB through it so far.

Was this the first time you shot it? If so, did you clean it before you shot it? A lot of times the pistols come from the factory chocked full of grease and could possibly cause your problem. After a good cleaning it should be fine. The only problem i had was when a friend of mine was shooting it. It was her first time shooting and she was kind of limp-wristing it so just another user error there. Good luck and enjoy the SR9!!

Hey guys I wanted to update you:

I cleaed and lubricated everything today. It was pretty dirty. I ran about 60 rounds through it and it performed perfectly. This gun is awesome! Thanks for all of the responses! You guys are great. I will let you know if I have anymore issues. Thanks!

First trip to the range with my new SR9 over a year ago produced about a dozen & a half light strikes with WWB 112 gr ammo out of 100 rounds.

Was mighty discouraging, but I took it home to field strip & clean it.

That's all it needed. Ran several hundred rounds through it since without any problems except one stovepipe early on.
