SR9 331

Hi all,

I'm going to buy an SR9 (California) and am wondering if anyone has the prefix 331 Ruger sr9? Some people calling this generation 3.

Anyone shot or handled both the 331 and the 330 version? Can you compare them or give a review. I have read a lot about SR9's, but just haven't heard anyone that has shot both or has had both versions. Wondering if I should hold out till I find a 331, or buy a 330 version that I can find easy.

Is it easy to even find the new 331 versions of the SR9? Anyone know a good source, either online or in California?

I have a 331 SR9. Its been flawless. Just understand its a partially cocked striker fired gun and has that feel in the trigger. Not bad at all, just not like a single action.

Just look for the "D" shaped mag release and you should be happy. The older round release has the harder trigger. The newer "D" shaped version has the latest trigger group and overall finished product. Easier to remember than serial numbers.

I've put about 200 rounds through a rental 330- and now have about 1200 in my 331-.

As noted above, the D-shaped mag release button is the giveaway.

Trigger feel is highly subjective but what I've noticed between the two was the 331- has:

- slightly lighter trigger weight
- shorter takeup
- shorter reset

The crunchiness in my 331- improved incrementally as the 1,000 round mark approached.

I have not seen any more 330- SR9s in the 4 dealers I've been to over the past couple months. All SR9s I see in the gun cabinets have the D-shaped mag release, in both blackened and stainless versions.

It is a CA legal gun, so you can get it at just about any dealer. Here in SoCal, Turners runs sales on them regularly. I bought my SR9 used in May 2010 (March 2009 build date) and have no trigger related complaints whatsoever.

I think the build date is on the small envelope containing the test fired case that is included with the gun.

Unless you live in a jurisdiction where the mfr/dealer needs to submit that to the authorities...

Well, that's the information I was looking for. I appreciate it. Sounds like you're happy with the gun. Wish I wasn't in California, but 10 clip will be good enough. Thanks for your response. I will be picking up an sr9 and I will post about it when I do.

I didn't buy new, so my price will not be useful to you. For what it's worth, $350 plus fees and it was in 10/10 condition. Previous owner couldn't have put more than a box through it.

ya...just got off phone with my buddy I just by fate stumbled onto that switch from selling benz's to guns. go figure right? i'll blaze to that.

I have had both the 330 and the 331 SR9's and the 331's are the latest iteration. They have the "D" shaped mag release and incorporate the best in the SR9c. Better trigger, easy mag release etc. The very newest SR9's are sweet. Shoot well, durable and dependable. I have shot over 5,000 rounds in my newest SR9 with NO problems. Great gun for sure...

I really like the look and feel of the the SR9.
Unfortunately my local dealer only has a 330 version.

Sounds like it is worth hanging on for a 331.

But before I buy I want to shoot one.

I am in Norcal Santa Cruz/San Jose, does any one either:

a) Know a range that has an SR9 331 to rent?
OR
b) Is anyone in that area who owns a 331 who would be willing to meet up at a range and let me shoot off a box of ammo through their gun?

Actually I will be in the DFW airport area from evening of 15 Feb to afternoon of 18 feb too.
If any one has an SR9 with the D mag release etc that they would be willing to let my shoot.

I would hate to buy a pistol without shooting it first.

I don't think that anyone knows, or thinks they know, anything about the latest model beyond what you can already find in this thread. I don't own either one, yet. From what I read there is nothing wrong with the older guns, it is more a case of there being some slight to modest improvements with the newest guns so if you are in the know and are buying a new gun you naturally want the latest version and not an older one that happens to still be on the shelf. Or possibly you use your knowledge of the new guns to talk the seller down a little on an older gun....

If you happen to own an older blackened stainless model then be aware that there is some indication (not everyone believes it and I don't think anyone knows for certain) that the newest black models are no longer stainless underneath. So if stainless is your thing your older blackened stainless gun may be more, not less, desirable than a new one.
