New guy here . I just bought an SR762 and I love the gun. I purchased the gun to use as a hunting rifle it came with three 20 round magazines but to be legal to hunt it has to have a 5 round mag. I did some research and found that the Magpul Pmags were supposedly an exact fit so I bought one. It arrived in the mail 3 days later but unfortunately it doesn't fit my gun. I emailed Ruger customer service with the issue but they say it should fit my gun. I registered here to get some input from others that may have had a similar issue. Here are pics with some differences that I've highlighted. I think these are the reason it doesn't fit. The 20 round mag that I'm comparing them to is one that came with the gun that fit just fine. I haven't sent these pics to Ruger yet just looking for opinions first to see if I'm missing something.

I recently bought an SR762 as well and love it. But for my use, the 20 rd magazine is too much and I'd like a smaller capacity mag. I'd be interested to hear if one exists. The stock mags are Magpul, so I'm not sure why the shorties won't fit.

You have purchased the incorrect magazine from Magpul. The magazine you purchased is for the "Hunter stock" that they offer for the Remington 700 platform.

You need to purchase the https://www.magpul.com/products/pmag-10-lrsr-gen-m3 magazine to fit your SR762 rifle. You will also need the purchase this https://www.magpul.com/products/minus-5-round-limiter-lr-sr-pmag-gen-m3 to bring your capacity down to 5 rounds.

With this combination, your magazine can only hold 5 rounds. Of course, double check with your locality on making sure this complies with all regulations to ensure you remain legal.

Enjoy.

Thanks but unfortunately the 5 round limiter is not legal in Florida. So you are saying there isn't a 5 round magazine made for my gun?

The regular AR10 mags fit the SR762. I've had my SR for about 4 years. Mine came with metal mags and way before anyone was making 5 round mags for hunting. I bought and cut down a Mappul mag and it works fine. Actually pretty easy to do.

If it does indeed take AR10 mags. I have a R25 that uses AR10 mags. I have DPMS 4 rounders and a ASC 5 rounder. Both are metal mags. I tested them out and use them to hunt with. I also have Mag puls in 10 and 20 rds. Last I checked magpul did not make any 5 rounders but, they may now. The DPMS mags is what Remington shipped with the gun.

Bearcat I have 3 20 round mags and was considering cutting one down. how did you connect the base after you cut it down? I ordered an ASC 5 rounder just to see if it would work. It should be here by Thursday.

I don't know about Bearcat but I just drilled through the floor plate and mag side and pinned it with paper clip wire. In other words I put two pins cross ways from side to side. I did not use the internal spring guide/retainer since you don't need/use it to keep the floor plate on. If I remember correctly I cut 7 coils off the spring. That mag has worked for three years of hunting and multiple range trips without a malfunction.

About the same I guess. I prefer polymer if I could find one that fits my gun even though the ASC is stainless and should be ok in the rain.
