What would be the effect of dry firing the SR40 pistol without the magazine in it? Apparently, the instruction manual says dry firing must be done with the magazine in the pistol. Since I do not have a SR40 or the instruction manual, I thought I would post the question here. Thanks in advance!

there is a magazine disconnect that blocks the striker channel when there is no magazine inserted... it or the striker can be damaged from dry-fire without the mag.

Like axisofoil said, Dry Firing without a Magazine can cause damage to the Striker and/or Magazine Disconnect (Mag DC). However, it is unknown how many inadvertent or negligent dry fires without a mag is required to damage the internals. Either never do it, or remove the Mag DC.

Removing the Mag DC allows you to dry fire in any condition, free of concern for damage. Removing the Mag DC is a simple process, takes all of 5-10 minutes, depending on your capacity to work on a mechanical device. How-to's in my signature :)
