SR22 Slide Damage - Factory Modification?

There has been some discussion of 'slide damage" in this and at least one other forum. Specifically, the damage occurs to the trailing edge of the notch that catches the slide release lever. When I examined my own SR22, I found no damage, but what I *did* find led me to post the following, here and elsewhere:

I was surprised to find that the notch in my slide that catches the slide release lever has had a pin inserted to protect its trailing edge:

The photo also shows I didn't clean the pistol after the last 350 rounds :oops:

I have not modified the pistol, so to the best of my knowledge my NIB purchase came straight from the factory this way. Therefore, Ruger is certainly aware that this form of "slide damage" is in fact an issue.

FYI, the test cartridge is dated 3/5/2012, the serial # is 360-35xxx, and the slide does not have "Pistol" on it. I hope you find this info useful.

Edit: The Ruger SR22 manual shows the pin as "Part #50 Dowel Pin for Slide Stop". I never thought to check the parts list, so I've added this note to the OP.

Well... I'll be the first to admit I apparently don't know what I'm looking at. Although your picture is really big, I'm looking at what appears to be the size of a bolt in your slide and seems to be in the center of what should be an open slide. Maybe a couple more pics ( maybe a bit smaller would show everything in perspective ) would help me understand what I'm looking at. I'm trying to look at mine upside down and I just can't get to look anything like yours minus your "bolt ". Honestly to me it looks like a 1/4 twenty screw.
My slide ( also damaged on the bottom of the slide just past the large R in
RUGER ) has a very small pin. And I mean small, its location is right at the bottom of the U in Ruger. Minimum damage at present but if that small pin is supposed to be the fix it isn't working. I have a shipping label to send it back. If I knew how to fix it I wouldn't send it back but......... then if something else happens would the NON warranty Ruger has be void ?

The slide is on a marble counter, upside down, muzzle pointing to the right. You are looking at the notch in the slide that the slide lock release lever pushes up into. The "bolt" you see is the pin meant to protect that notch. At the top of the photo you are looking at the marble counter top through the ejection port.

Yes, its a real close-up, otherwise one might not see the pin.

Well... the black granite C.T. explains why I was confused.. to a point. Like I said I have a really small pin but it doesn't seem to be in the same location. Mine is on the edge of the slide. Is your really in the middle of the slide as it appears ?

If you look closely, its not in the middle. The camera angle distorts things to maintain perspective. The pin is closer to the outside as shown by another pic I had laying around:

Much better pic and camera angle. Yes, that's the same pin I have in
mine but my slide is still damaged. Guess I'll let Ruger figure it out.

Thanks for posting the pics. It would be interesting to me if anyone else has the pin and still sustained damage to the bottom of the slide.
