Have never shot one yet and am curious about them. Any problem fitting aftermarket parts to them. What safety system do they use (series 70,80 or Schultz (spelling) style? What kind of out of the box accuracy? Have owned several 1911's and some required work to make them shooters while others were just laser accurate. Thanks ;)

They're good entry level guns at about $600 ... About 5 lb +/- triggers ... Most AM parts should fit .... If you Figure they're about a 3 inch or slightly better gun at 25 yards, you won't be disappointed ... Series 70 safety.

Competitors would be the Springfield MilSpec, Remington R1, or other premium name entry level 1911's. If the price in your area for one is approaching $800 .... There are better choices.

Thanks...... looks like a good base gun to build on.

I have a commander , shoots well ... so far no problems. ( as in rust or broken sights ) Awhile back I did have a Springer mil-spec. I wanted to enhance it some , called Cylinder and Slide about their trigger/action kits. I ended up speaking to Bill Laughridge He were very helpful and great to do business with. He told me he perfers the Springer mil-spec as a base for his builds , says its a great strong frame with all the holes in the right places. Thought I'd throw that out there ...if your thinking about buying for a base rebuild gun. Also a good used one can be had for less than most others. Just food for thought :)

Yeah ... I agree .... Colts and Springfields are usually the best place to start for a serious build. The holes being in the right places .... Or adherence to the original specs is where you can run into problems with the fringe brands. Not sure whether the Ruger is true to original specs or not.

It depends whether you really mean 'build' .... Or just accessorize with supposed 'drop-in' parts ....

Im a shooter...........have a great disdain for doodads :)

Then you're just like me .... Start with a time proven platform .... Colt or Springfield .... You KNOW those two will work, and every gunsmith on the planet is well versed and familiar with them.
