Never gave it a moment's thought till they were laying side by side on the range bench. These pistols have some similiar features;

SR1911 Novak 3 dot sights......Wiley Clapp Novak Bead front, Extra wide rear.

I prefer the 3 dot.

Both have a flat Mainspring Housing.

Both have beveled magwell.

SR1911 Large Slide Stop & Safety......Wiley Clapp Small Safety & Slide Stop.

Both work fine for me, no preference either way, as long as they work.

SR1911 no front strap checkering.....Wiley Clapp Pete Single 25 line.

Nice to have the checkering but not necessary for me personally.

SR1911 Oversize Ejection Port w/Flare...Wiley Clapp Lowered & Flared Ejection Port.

The first fired case from both hit the bill of my cap, after that all went out to the side. I like em both; a lot.

Both have Beavertail Grip Saftey with Enhanced Hammer. Appreciate that tremendously.

SR1911 Stainless Steel.....Wiley Clapp Blued Steel. Works the same for me.

Both "Series 70" which is my personal preference.

Magazines are interchangable.

SR1911 cost $$$.........Wiley Clapp $$$$.

Similiar but still Different and I am very happy to have both.

Yes, I think Ruger did a nice job of making a factory gun, with custom touches, at a reasonable price. Kind of ups the anti for the custom guys, IMHO. Back in the day, when all you could get were GI, type 1911's the gunsmiths must have been in their glory. Ed

I decided to shoot mine today ... Still a nice gun.

I'd imagine what you'd most likely notice between the RO and the SR is .... the trigger, then the sight quality, then .... Primarily Because of those two things .... The group size.

I have looked at the Clapp Commanders. There is also a Clapp Gov. The ones I have seen are about a $1.4K thing. My Ruger Commander was $669 in Jan. The Clapps do have an Aluminum alloy frame. For anyone who has the bucks to blow I would also look at the Colt XSE Commanders and the S&W E Series. My Colt XSE LW Commander was over $800 when I bought it new in 2006 and the new ones are close to $1K. Better than the Ruger SR1911CMD is how you define better. In the SR1911 I think Ruger has given us a very nice pistol for the price.
