Sr1911 problem

So I go out and shoot the sr1911 today for the second time. I had about 4 or 5 failures of the slide completely closing. I have cleaned the gun well and lubed it. I did notice that there was copper jacketing under the barell ramp. I am carrying this gun for ccw and it worries me. What should I do call ruger? Anyone had this same experience? This was with 230gr fmj. Hollow points feed well. Thanks milky
 
You may have a barrel feed ramp issue. I would call Ruger. I assume this issue rules out the magazine?
 
I'm trying to envision copper jacketing under the feed ramp. Do you have any pics of this? Does your barrel protrude into the mag well?
 
milky...I'm near Lexington. If you can make the trip, I'll take a gander at it and...if what I suspect is happening...fix it in about 30 minutes. N/C

Thanks for the offer. Maybe if I'm up that way sometime I will stop and check you out. I have a gold cup nm 70 series that the plunger is loose on. Cklt said it shouldn't be staked in but it bothers me.
 
I would vote a trip back to Ruger also. It is nice there are folk in your area. You may make new gun buddys.
 
Haven't been a practicing gunsmith in close to 30 years, and never really did the whole gunsmith thing. More of a mechanic/repairman/fixer of delinquent pistols and rifles. I left the custom stuff to the artisans whose cuppa tea that was. Now, without access to a machine shop, I'm even more limited...but most of these things are simple, assuming that Dremel Dan and Buffin' Bubba haven't been into your pistol.

Nowadays, I spend most of my time takin' care of the dogs. I'm a rescuer/adopter/failed foster with 25 of'em on board. I'm especially fond of my five Siberian Huskies...all full-blooded and all rescued...three of'em within days or even hours of takin' the last walk. I waited until it was clear that nobody was gonna step up for'em, and gave notice that they could come here. They're not up for grabs, by the way. I wouldn't take a gold monkey for either of'em.

Not to mention he is one of the real experts on the m1911.org forum that most guys will go to for a solution when they have a problem with the 1911.

So just got the 1911 back from ruger. Says the repaired the barel and extractor. And got a nice ruger gun cloth :D we will see what happens tommorow.
 
Well just put a 100rods through the 1911. One stove pipe and one fail to close into battery. Now the trigger will not reset unless you flip the safety on then back off. Some times that does not allow it to fire. I am very upset to say the least. Ruger is closed for the holidays. I am tired of wasting my ammo trying to get this thing to shoot. I have lost confidence in this gun and don't know if I can every trust it as a self defence gun. I am going to demand a new pistol that has been thourghly checked before it has been shipped. Thanks for listening to me vent. Never had a problem that hasn't been resolved in a trip back to ruger. Looks like this is a problem child. Is a new gun demand reasonable?

I hear ya on the lost confidence thing. Once bitten, twice shy....that's me.
Yes, I do believe that at this point, a replacement gun should be Ruger's next order of business.
Weather or not the next one would be "thourghly checked before it has been shipped" though....now, that might be another question.

I will guys. I own probably 50 rugers and know they have great products and customer service. I will talk to them tommorow, I hate to say it but I sold my glock to buy this 1911 and I am starting to regret the decision. Back to carrying the S&W Lew Horton model 66 for now.
