I just can't get into .45 ACP's with aluminum or plastic frames. Not knocking the lightweight with the Ti ramp, I just prefer the all stainless steel frame. What say you CMD owners ?

What that taught me was....if I was to ever buy another "short" 1911, it would dern-sure have to be an aluminum-frame version. Otherwise, there wouldn't be much point.

I have a full sized SR1911 and the LWT-CDR and I've found the LWT-CDR so much more comfortable to carry that the full size SR1911. Accuracy wise and recoil they're about equal and I've really no difference between the two pistols.

My point was/is.....even though both are the same length, without the advantage of having a meaningfull amount of weight savings (which only the LW version offers), there realy aint much point to picking a CMD over a full size gun to start with.
In other words, my experience says that simply whacking off 3/4" from the business end of an all steel 1911, does not by itself really "improve" anything at all. In fact, to me....relative to balance, sight radious, and bullet performance, it only detracts.
But that's just me, I'm a real practical sort of guy.
You of course, may see it entirely different, may have your own reasons for that, and that's OK too.....'cause that's what makes a horse race, and that's why gun companies give us choices.

Would the strength of the aluminum frame against strength of SS be the mental issue of the two.
when I think of the two my thought is the LW wont last if I shoot it alot.

I actually like the lightweight and both of its parents.
Don't carry any of them. I carry a Colt all steel Commander. I think another thing that could be major to many people are the thin grips on the Ruger light weight. Gives one a different feel. A lot of points of this other than "mine is better than yours" is you. Your hands, how you carry, your holster, etc.

The ONLY reason to ever even consider a Commander sized pistol is the lightweght frame ! The 3/4" shorted BBl, frame, and slide do not mean a damn thing except lost performance. As a matter of fact, my FULLSIZE lightweight frame 1911 pistols ALL handle superbly, shoot beautifully and are light in the hand and to carry.

For me, full size=steel. Commander=lightweight. My lightweight commanders are S&W's, nothing against the Ruger lightweight, it just wasn't available yet. Although I in general, am not a fan of two tone guns.

My SR1911 LWT-CDR has turned out to be one of my favorite carry pistols as far as accuracy and dependability is concerned. Ruger certainly did it right this time!
I have always liked the Commander size all steel pistols. The Government model is my choice for target work, but the Commander size is my favorite all around pistol. The weight of an all steel pistol does not bother me. I shoot the steel models better than the lightweights. I cared about comfort more than my shooting ability the lightweights would make more sense.
