I have had the best day ever....

my latest weapon is a 4 foot boat paddle. Today I got a record 11 confirmed kills of Carpenter Bees.

those Bstrs are hard to kill, I had 25 good hits, but they would get up and fly away unless I used coup de gras of stepping on them

I had sprayed ever wooden joist with Sevin a couple weeks ago and thinking the cold snap that sent them back in, might have actually worked

Things can get a lot worse if you use a torch. Good job with the paddle.

Hand loading shot shells with coarse corn meal, tapioca, or rice in your favorite caliber works also. There is a thread on castboolits.com on this subject. I hadn't seen any carpenter bees out in middle Tn yet. I use an electrified 3 foot tennis racquet that stuns them enough to be able to stomp on them. I think I will try the handgun this year. http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?239464-Carpenter-Bee-Load

A 12 gauge with #9 shot works real well, but it makes the neighbors a bit skittish and there is the collateral damage and the cost of the bail bondsman. But other than that it's a go!

Hi,

I was introduced to this item a couple of weekends ago. Dunno how well it would work on those bees or other critters when they're flying, but it's death on flies, spiders, and a few other bugs once they're landed. You'll want to get the camo model, of course, so you can sneak up on 'em better. ;)

It was an absolute hoot for sniping purposes! Combined with one of the electric tennis racket gizmos for aerial combat, one can be entertained for a long time:

while I have yet to be faced with a "charging" bee, I would consider them the "dangerous game" of the insect world, thus you need a BIG gun (or excellent shot placement).

with the wooden boat paddle I get a good thunk with the hit, and a second good thunk when they bounce of the house siding AND if I am not quick with a follow up shoe, they will fly away!

I've found it takes two or three shots on a wasp but is deadly on softer bugs like flys and spiders.
