not sure if this is the right place but here goes. I'm in the market for a spotting scope . I want to be able to see clearly to abou 200 to 3oo yrds. Any suggestions without breaking the bank ?

Minox compact spotter good for field use, or off the bench, great glass for the $$

I carry a cheap Bushnell 20x50 under the seat of my truck most of the time. This unit has a plastic body and I do not think I paid $40 for it. I found a tripod at a local show and together, they are great.

At work I use a much more expensive unit that is also a Bushnell with a metal body and it weighs at least 3 times as much. No idea what that one sold for.

For your use, I recommend that you select something of the cheaper side and see how it performs.

I have one of the Burris compact 12-24x50mm spotters. I don't know what they sell for anymore but it's a great spotter for use at the target bench and I have a window mount for it and use it when I'm out scouting around the woods before deer season. It has very bright and clear optics for what it is compared to what you'd pay for a top of the line models. I like the compact size and it fits nicely in either the range bag or truck.

What do you want to see at that distance? A bullet hole or a moose?

Imissedagain, once again...

I use a Tasco but would choose a Burris for over 100 yd. work. Their optics are the best bang for the buck in the 20 years I've peeped thru them

Just found this. Check out Telescopemart.com and click on spotting scopes. I needed a scope to see .223's at 100-200 yds. Tried a Redfield Rampage 20-60X60 and it was okay at 100. ( no 200yd local) Bought a Weaver T-36 fixed power rifle scope and can see .223's at 100 and have been told it is okay at 200.
I can use it on a rifle or take it off and use it as a spotter. I have Buehler mounts and two sets of rings. On and off and zero still okay. Light colored paper works best. Weaver was $400 delivered. A Bushnell Trophy XLT spotter is also nice in the high power model.

dont buy a leupold wind river. Ive got one and its the only leupold optics that ive ever been disapointed in. I think my old 75 dollar simmons had better optics.

Today I went to my LSS and bought a Redfield Renegade 20-60 . It is great, I could see the 22 hole plain as day at 200 yds. I looked at things beyond 200 yds. and it was great. I would reccomend this scope in a heartbeat. Cost 206 out the door. Thanks everbody for your input .
