Speer Shot Capsules

Does anyone know if Speer is still manufacturing empty shot capsules in 38/357 and 44 calibers? I've been looking for both calibers for close to six months now and have been unable to locate either one. May have to go back to using gas checks to load pistol shot cartridges as I did many years ago. Advice please.

Yes ,go to grafs.com , just got email they are back in stock on the 44s.

Go brownells or grafs and do the " notify me " and be ready to order as soon as they email you. Thats how I got stocked up ..........

Attempted to call Speer this morning. After dialing their number five times and ending up in voice mail all five times, I finally gave up. Decided to make my own .357 shot cartridges the old way using gas checks. Originally did it this way back in the late '60's. They worked then and certainly should work now. The Hell with Speer!

They work better in my opinion, you can get more shot in the case by using the gas checks.

Speer make them periodically , just jump on them when you see them because they go quick .

Boy, I gotta say some have said these shot capsules work great but back in the day I tried these in a .44 mag and at a distance of 4' the snake was unscathed.

I was hunting with a buddy and a belligerent cottonmouth laid on a dirt road in front of us and I gave him a dose of # 7 1/2 shot and the bugger didn't flinch! The shot "pattern" was everywhere but at the snake. I suspect some pellets hit him but clearly not enough to get his attention.

Switching over to my Redhawk only nuclear 240's and one shot took his head off. One failure was enough to give up on shot capsules.

This might be the same company I tried ordering from a few years back, I got my money refunded about 3 months into waiting.
I could be wrong..

I've taken a pheasant on the wing with the Thompson Center 44 hot shots in a Contender....maybe it was lucky?

No maybe not lucky because hot shot capsules are a different animal. The thread and my post are about the "speer" capsules.

It's been some 45 years since I diddled with a TC Contender and shot capsules but IIRC the TC hot shots are larger, hold more shot and the correct Contender barrel has a choke specifically made to keep the pattern from going too wide off to the next state.

Now if you were using a standard TC .44 barrel without a choke, then yes you were lucky.
