This morning I am driving down a town road, 5 mph over the speed limit and being tailgated. So I slow down to the speed limit. The person tries to pass me on a double yellow. The entire street is a double yellow, 2 schools. I prevent her from passing and she calls the pd on me!!
LEO was OK but warned me for preventing her from passing.

Small town.

Is your town this crazy with speeders?

She was wrong for passing, but it is not your place to try to prevent her. Not your place to try to educate her. Or teach her a lesson. You are not authorized to direct traffic. What you were doing can be perceived as road rage. Just let them go. Karma catches up with them eventually.

Sounds to me like speeder 1 was speeding on a two lane road with a double yellow ( no passing ) line on it . Then when a faster speeder ( speeder 2 ) came up behind him , speeder 1 deliberately slowed down.
Then when speeder 2 tied to pass , speeder 1 got upset and prevented speeder 2 from doing such. I believe that means , speeder 1 then crossed the double line into the other lane preventing speeder 2 from passing him.
Then speeder 2 calls the cops and complains.
Speeder 1 gets a reprimand about preventing speeder 2 from passing him .

Everything above is a moving violation.
As stated above , preventing someone from passing can be considered aggressive driving.
If convicted of aggressive driving you can loose your right to bear arms. Is it worth it.

This is just my observation and means nothing.

We lived in New Jersey before Texas. The part of Jersey where we lived people drove very nice and respectfully towards other drivers.

When we moved to Texas, I drove like always and so many people got so mad at me. I just drove the speed limit and people would pull around in front of me and slam on their brakes.

Finally I caught on and if i dove just a little bit faster nobody cared.

Now I drive just about as fast as possible and still get passed by police driving even faster. And still nobody cares and nobody gets mad at my driving.

Within my neighborhood and local towns/cities I drive the posted limits. Out on the open road and the Interstates I travel 'with' traffic. If someone has a problem then they can do whatever they feel is necessary to get ahead of me. I am going to do nothing to stop them.

We called the people who would purposely hold back traffic left lane rangers. On multiple lane roads, they get a failure to drive right. Only when they hold up 3 vehicles is it an impeding cite, where I worked. Since retirement I could give a rip how others drive, many drive like idiots. I doubt they think so if you ask them.
My life is far too important piss other drivers off. I just get out of tailgates way. Let the traffic cops do their job.

I use my cruise control for the most part and set my speed for a few miles an hour over the posted speed. In school zones and by parks I drive slowly. The lowest setting on my cruise is 24mph. I will slow down if an aggressive driver is trying to pass especially on a double solid yellow and I may even pull to the side to let them speed on. Being passed on a double line whizzes me off but sometimes I have had the last laugh if I see them pulled over with set of flashing lights on top of the police car. Texting drivers are the ones that really bother me though. I have explained the reason why in other posts.

This is a town road, one lane each direction.

Problem is the cops dont do their jobs.

Well when that speeding driver kills one of your family perhaps you will think differently.

I was not speeding, you need to reread my post. Here in CT we do not enforce crossing the double line.

JackBull as long as you didn't cross the double solid to keep the other driver from passing and didn't drive below the speed limit I don't think there is a real problem on your part. If you went down to 10 miles an hour under the posted speed then you were impeding traffic. I drive daily on all kinds of roads going to and from work and see all sorts of drivers. I say a lot of bad words daily as well because there is a violation that is not on the books called driving HUA which is Head Up A... Plenty of them on the road at all times.

Why would you give a crap about someone wanting to pass you? Having them tailgate you, stopping them from passing, etc, puts you at far higher risk of a crash or worse than if you let them pass you? I just returned from a 2,500 mile road trip from the Midwest to the Gulf Coast and back to visit a dying friend before it was too late. Some of the roads that I was on have speed limits of 75 mph, with most traffic going 85 or 90 mph safely. But every once in awhile there is some jerk who thought that he was going to teach the rest of us some type of lesson, or maybe he was totally oblivious to what drivers around him were doing, that he would sit in the left lane right at 75 or possibly a bit slower. This forced everyone else to pass him on the right, and in a few cases, swerve back into the left lane directly in front of the slow driver.

If you want to drive slower than the traffic around you, stay to the right, or if on a two lane road, pull over where you can, let the faster drivers go by, then resume your slow travel. Don't be the a**hole that thinks he is teaching the rest of the world how to drive and end up creating an unsafe situation for all involved, or inviting real road rage.

I haven't driven much in Europe, maybe 1000-1300 miles total over two trips.
One thing I did like is that it used to be acceptable and maybe expected that faster traffic would flash their lights
to the oblivious plugging up the faster lanes. On some roads you better be aware what was behind you and get out
of the way. I wish we could do that on our interstates with out people getting all bent out of shape.
I respect traffic laws except for speed limits, tend to view those as more like a recommendation and use my
judgement on what's safe.

Your first sentence reads, "This morning I am driving down a town road, 5 mph over the speed limit and being tailgated." It sounds to me that you admitted to speeding right there.

Well Jack, regarding post #17, you can try to justify blocking or holding up traffic anyway you want. I don't believe for a New York second there was not a shoulder, parking lot, driveway, a side street you could have pulled over onto. It's funny you said cops don't do their jobs, but when the other driver called them. They contacted you. Maybe, just maybe if you hadn't pulled that stupid move. They could have spent that time out on the road. Maybe, just maybe stopping someone who was tailgating. Instead of spending it finding and talking to you.

I briefly worked for an auto parts store as a delivery driver. The company vehicles had all kinds of instrumentation in them - the manager could get a real-time location on each vehicle, etc. Every day the speeding and 'harsh braking' report for the previous day came down from corporate. They could tell exactly how fast you were driving, and where you were at that specific moment. Not a problem, because I wasn't in a hurry. I didn't purposely speed, and harsh braking was normally due to brain-dead people cutting me off. I used the cruise control whenever possible, set right at the speed limit. I was nearly run off the road multiple times by people trying to pass me under dangerous conditions. On a two-lane country Farm to Market road, I'm not going to drive 70 MPH just because the guy behind me is in a hurry to get to Walmart. Not when the posted limit is 55! There were doubtless a bunch of people who hated to see me driving that little Chevy Spark, but I didn't care!

Problem is everybody's "judgerment of what's safe" varies so much it causes the problem.
If everybody traveled the posted speed limit it would cause far less peoblems.

There's one stretch of road about a mile in length that is three lanes. The middle lane is strictly for making left turns and the road is between several walled communities with lots of intersection that are a bit blind because of the wall. The speed limit is 25 MPH although personally it think 30 or 35 MPH would be more appropriate. It depends on what I'm driving as that the route I take to go to the store. If in my truck I can set the cruise control to 25 MPH, no problem. The Explorer is stubborn beast at best and trying to keep it just at 30 MPH is difficult. That road is a notorious speed trap t times but I can be going or coming on that road and sure as hell some idiot will use that middle lane as a passing lane. I can remember as a kid minor highways being three lanes with the middle used for left turns and passing., and more for the latter to be exact. IIRC, they outlawed those "passing" lanes years ago as way too many people died due to head on collisions. My only question is this, "Where are the cops when one of those idiots passes me using that middle lane?"

Wait a minute; double yellow, two schools and he only slowed down to the speed limit! How was he truly preventing her from passing. Tailgating, against the law, passing over a double yellow, against the law. Why would anyone reprimand you?
Looks like Montana has gone woke. The scofflaw Karen gets the OK from the PD.
