Speed Limit Signs Missing

I have been treated extremely poorly by an officer and have been given breaks by many others.

Topic is about missing (or maybe never existing) speed limit signs...not bad apples.

TexasRat, in reading your story I understand that you were within your rights to refuse the search of your home but in retrospect it sure sounds like it would have been a lot less troublesome to have invited them in and even offered coffee and donuts....

Had they not come with guns drawn and demanding I might would have. As I stated my uncle, who was not there, was one of them. Yet I do not take kindly to being told come out of my house at gun point, when I had not done any thing wrong, by people doing things wrongly. Just the way I roll. Every body in the other homes did as commanded and they, other than having lost their dignities, come out unscathed. One witness said it looked like a pack of wolves attacking Jed Clampet. Others said that they felt violated even though they were not physically touched in any way. I stood with pride once they picked me up off the ground and said "This is a day that the Lord has made, and I will celebrate and rejoice in it. Oh and by the way did you know that you just thumped the wrong hillbilly this time." I spent the next two years trying to get them charged with the felonies they committed that day seemingly to no avail, other than the two that had to resign. But again one of them just got hired as a cop in Shenandoah Texas about ten miles down the road. I have no clue about what went with the other one.

We have a STOP sign close to our house. We often sit and watch to see how many actually stop.It is a shame that so many peoples live are so rushed/stressed they don't have time to sit for 2-3 seconds and come to a complete stop.

Removing a traffic control sign should be a felony. Most states have a state wide speed limit, i.e., 55 mph unless otherwise posted. Removing a speed limit sign might well cause a driver to assume that the road was ok for 55 mph rather than what the sign might have said, like 30 mph. And of course, removing a stop sign is likely to get someone hurt or killed.

I have no answer to the OP's question about signage.

But the following discussion about LEO's & such,, especially the negative stuff,, is heartbreaking for me.

My youngest is a LEO.

I've had to give him an ear & shoulder to cry upon when he tried hard to save the life of a little girl, who was shot by another child, because stupid adults failed to secure a shotgun. And I've had to attend the funeral of one of his good LEO friends who was ambushed by a thief,, and shot dead just trying to do his job at stopping a thief.
I also have a State Trooper friend who, on July 3rd, 2023 saw a broken down car on the side of an exit ramp. He stopped to offer friendly assistance. Never even asked the guy for an ID or made any attempts to accuse him of any crime etc. He called the "Emergency Roadside Assistance" truck for him. Yet,, suddenly the guy came out a car with a Desert Eagle .44 mag & shot my friend point blank in the chest. Totally unprovoked. Luckily my friend had on a vest,, (that wasn't rated for a .44 mag,) and was able to return fire to defend himself. I shared that story here in July of 2023,, under the title of something like "My heart stopped" .
And I know a lot of really good people who believe in the law,, and became LEO's to try & help others. I've been around LEO's all my life. Proudly.

Yes,, I will admit that it doesn't matter what organization, group, club, or whatever,, will ALL have bad people in them. Catholic priests, BSA leaders, LEO's, etc.

But it truly upsets me when I see people curse,, or spit on, or demand defunding or whatever the police,, yet scream the loudest when they are violated by robbery, rape, murder, etc demanding that the police "arrest the criminals"!

I'm sure most of use around here can relate a negative story or two about bad cops. But if the same people are honest,, they can also relate just as many good stories about the police.

And without laws,, and those who enforce them, we'd all have to live in a manner that could cause a lot more lives to be lost. Especially innocent lives,, because of how some people would just shoot someone because they didn't like something. Or they would just steal, rape, burn etc others because w/o LEO's,, they would have no fear of anything except others who might do them harm for doing their crimes.

As Dirty Harry said in one of his movies,, (I think it was Magnum Force,) where he said; "I hate the system, but it's all we got. And until someone fixes it,, I'll follow it!" (Or something like that. )
Leos cant do anything until a crime is performed. How much crime they stop can be questioned. Traffic laws are rarely enforced here and most of the towns leos do not observe those laws anyway.

Just had a talk of the Town Manager. He left the local PD because of how poorly it was run for years. Based on my experience, I strongly concur. I have found their attitude to be unprofessional and their judgments to border on criminal. I will fully support an honest cop, thing is in my town they are few and far between.

I agree with your post. However I think it is the town and/or state removing the signs because they are not being replaced. In my town I believe the default speed limit is 25 mph if not posted.

For a while around here every deer crossing sign had a red reflector stuck on the deers nose.

It happened fast in the entire state thousands of signs. Hard to believe it wasn’t coordinated somehow. But I never heard anything about it.
