Speed Six (with update)

Beautiful; a gun you can definitely get behind! Worth all the "Wondernines" ever manufactured. (I'm not a fan of the finger-grooved style of grip, but it's for YOUR hand!).

I carried a Security Six with 6-inch barrel while serving as a Reserve Deputy Sheriff in Orange County California in the early 80s. I was only only guy in the Department with a Ruger. I smoothed the trigger myself, slicked up the action myself, and put on a pair of Hogue Monogrips. I put THOUSANDS of rounds downrange in practice without a hiccup. Years later, a friend of mine BEGGED me to sell it to him. After months of pleading, I finally traded him for a new Winchester levergun. I later regretted the trade and bought a used Security Six to fill that void. These are terrific guns, with amazing engineering. I wish Ruger still made these.

Thanks to a great member on here, with a good eye, I have found out that I have a US Postal Inspector's Speed Six. It has a 3 inch barrel, instead of the usual 2 3/4, it has Pachmeyer grips with the Ruger medalion (yeah, I still have them), and a different kind of barrel, he described it as being more like a Redhawk. I checked Chad's book, and it is in the serial number range, as a matter of fact it was the last year the Six series where produced. Didn't think I could be happier, but he made me a tad happier. I got this gun and a $100 for a Beretta 92 I had $450 in, so I only have $350 in this one!

Nice find on the 3" Speed Six. I found three 3" Service Sixes within a year, all made in the last year of production. I am still looking for a 3" Speed Six. Here is a comparison photo of a 2 3/4" with regular barrel and 3" with heavy barrel.
