I picked up this Single Six a year or so ago, from a local gun shop. While I liked the factory grip color, they had a miserable fit to the gun. I replaced the with a pair I made up using walnut scrounged from my cutoff pile in my wood shop. The finish is 4-5 coats of tung oil, well rubbed in. The grip profile is one that I prefer with a slight palm swell and minimal base bevel. The base bevel angle allows a full grip or the ever popular, "pinkie under" type.
With 700+ rounds down range, the gun's worked out equally well with either the .22 LR or the Magnum cylinder installed.
In .22 LR, CCI Standard Velocity does very well with groups < than 2" at 25 yds; but, surprise, surprise, Remington Golden HP's & Federal Auto-Match do almost as well and both are a bit cheaper.
With the magnum cylinder installed, CCI Maxi-Mag 40 gr JHP's average right at 2" at 25 yds....the ones that are packaged in 125 count miniature "milk carton" boxes. Our local Walmart has had them for $31...the best deal I've found to date.
Here's the finished gun with my grips installed. I 2nd pic of it with the factory grips and the field holster I made up for it, and the 3rd with an early Mag cylinder from a '71 gun, stolen from us several years ago. I works perfectly with accuracy equal to the factory stainless cylinder. Note the early flutes on this Mag cylinder. Best Regards, Rod
