Speed Six vs SP101

I have both in 357. My overall comments are:

- Speed Six has one extra round
- Speed Six has a slightly larger grip frame
- Speed Six costs a little less (because it is an older revolver)
- SP 101 weighs a little less
- my particular Speed Six has a nicer trigger
- both have fixed sights (find a similar Security Six for adjustable sights)
- both have plenty of holster options
- both are fine firearms and you will be happy with either one

Glupy

Speed Six is definitely easier to shoot, and they're inherently accurate. As they left the factory, the old Six-series is smoother, and more refined as compared to GP's and SP's.

SP101 is lighter, smaller, and easier to carry. And, taking nothing away from the SP, it is the easiest shooting of any small frame revolver.

There's no free lunch!

WAYNO.

Both shoot fine and having owned both, I would choose the SP101 for being lighter and smaller than the Speed Six.

I own both. I tend to carry the SP101 more and shoot the speed six more.

Have and really, REALLY like BOTH. In the SP I wanted a 3 1/16” barrel for the .357 chambering. I don’t see a lot of advantage to a shorter barrel in .357 and if I want a shorter barreled revolver I am going to go lighter as well with something like an S&W 642 (or an LCR if they weren’t so dang ugly) .38 +P. My SP is interestingly VERY close in overall size to my 2 ¾” Speed Six. Height and length is very much the same with width of course greater on the six shot Speed Six. And of course the Speed Six is heavier. If you held me down and absolutely forced me to pick between them I suppose I would go with the SP but it would hurt me terribly to do so. And only then would I pick the SP because I have other .357 Magnums (like a 2 ¾” Security Six and a snubbie S&W 19) that fill a similar role as the Speed Six. If on the other hand the Speed Six and the SP were all I had and all I could get, well then I would have to pick the Speed Six. How’s that for straddling the fence?
