How rare, scarce are these low grip marked Speed-Sixes? Any idea on price....90%?

That serial number makes it a fairly scarce gun. It would all depend on the overall condition (bluing, any cylinder turn line, condition of the hammer/trigger grips (if not original grips that would lessen the value). Several good pics (with the last part of the s/n covered if you want) would help a lot in determining what it might be worth.

Is the SS84 a 4" gun in .38 Special?

Yes, the SS-84 is a blued 4" .38 Special & with this s/n, it's of the low back grip frame variety.

No pictures, no box or papers. Looks to have been a working gun. I just happened upon it at a LGS. If I could remember the whole SN I'd post it. Looks all original, has some wear, price is much better than most I have bought and passed on. I still have a SS34 high back with a pretty low SN 151-14072. Just a bit curious about the low back marked 4" Speed-Six. If it were a SS82 low back I would be showing some pictures! 8)

For me, being a Six Series lover, regardless of condition or perceived "rarity" I'd be ALL OVER buying this unless he's just stupid-high on the price. I'd easily fork over up to $400.00 for a 90% or better blued low back Speed Six. Others may feel differently.

Recently, I picked up a SS-32 low back grip frame Speed Six (s/n 150-56xxx) for $535. Condition is 95% (+/-) with a few wear marks from holstering it (?). The barrel has the plum color that I really like. It came with a set of Pachmayr rubber grips on it, which were for a high back grip frame Speed Six. Needless to say, they didn't fit very well. I replaced them with the correct grips & I'm liking it a lot. Now I just need to find a SS-34 Speed Six to go with the early orange & white Ruger Speed Six box that I bought in 2008.
