I only see reference to 2 3/4" barrel my ruger box say's 2" barrel is this just different measuring points? or terminology? Just curious. I just purchased this last month. I was buying some ammo from a guy and he offers it to me. I didn't know any thing about rugers but for $375.00 I figured i could not go wrong. I love this gun.

That's very nice, I would have jumped on it at that price.

I checked that catalog number in RENE and it indicates a blue, speed six, 357 Mag with pachmayers and 2 3/4 barrel. Since your box is plainly marked 2 inch, I guess this is a variation. I tried to scan through the variations listed in RENE but quickly realized it was way more info than my brain is prepared to accept this morning. The exspurts will be along directly I'm sure.

It is a nice gun/package.

Does the gun truly have a 2" barrel or does it measure 2-3/4" from the front of the cylinder?
I'm thinking Ruger made a typo on the box label.

I can't see photobucket pics from work so can't see what model you have, but I have a GS32P (Stainless Speed Six .357 with 2-3/4" barrel and factory Pachmayr grips) that has a box label marked 2" barrel.

It is a gun from the Terhune estate, the earliest known factory "P" model and the serial number is has a "U" suffix which designated it as a Used gun. SN is 153-40102U. The shipper has the correct 2-3/4" designation. The grip pre-dates the factory order of fingergroove Pachmayr grips with Ruger medallions and is just a plain round butt rubber grip with no medallions.

I have a pic online but it too is on photobucket so I can't get to it from work - maybe I can link it in later.

From the front of the cylinder it is 2 3/4" so probably a typo?

Maybe not a typo. I believe my 5.5" SBH said 5" on the box.

Now that I'm home, yours appears to be the same model as mine except in blue and with the later Ruger medallion fingergroove Pachmayr grips.

Here is the one I mentioned, basically the same label except for stainless.

Definitely a typo on these labels.

weaselmeatgravy: Are you sure the rubber grips with the medallions are Pachmyrs. My Speed Six with rubber grips and medallions are Siles.

"BigTubby's" appears to have the late heavy barrel while WMG's appears to have the earlier, lighter barrel.

I do think BigTubby's is an uncommon version with the late scalloped frame, blued, heavy barrel and factory rubber grips. Really the first one I've seen (for what ever that's worth).

Excellent buy with the box, etc.

Terry, i can see the difference in the barrel but i can't really tell a difference in the frame could you direct me to the differences, Thanks

Right side of the recoil shield, behind the cylinder is dished out or "scalloped" (concave) on yours but rounded, like part of a sphere, on WMG's. The top strap is also thicker on the scalloped frames which makes the sights more pronounced.

I believe that there are not too many 2 3/4" heavy barrels. It's easiest to see in the ejector rod housing shape. Of course if one looks down the barrel from the business end of the two barrels side by side, the thicker barrel is obvious.
