Noncannah Creek is the watershed around the Southern portion of Memphis. Though during most of the time it is only ankle deep or so, it has a very deep channel for the deluge after a hard rain. At the time of my youth, it was in the county and a great place to shoot due to very steep walls. Surrounding the area where we played/shot/explored, were corn fields. The owner let us pick a few ears at tmes totake home. It was big white field corn which we parched at home.

One day after a plinking session, we were walking down a row of corn. I had my rifle, a Marlin 39A over my shoulder, gripping it by the pistol grip. Suddenly about twenty yards ahead of us a young man, slightly older than us, stepped out of the corn stalks. He was buck naked....and seeing us, grabbed a cprnm stalk and brandished it like a spear. (Dumb move, I thought, a corn stalk vs. a rifle.) Than a grown man stepped out behind him, clothed and wearing waders.

They had found a deep spot in the creek and were having a river baptism, the corn field was their dressing room!

Gee,, did the guy think y'all were the devil? :D

We have a little church up the road a ways here. There's a small creek in front of it. They built a rock wall set on both sides,, and a slot for a blocking wall to make a baptism pool when they do one.
