Ok, so first time dealing with a SP101 match champion (wood grip) what's the trick to getting the grip off? The manual only has instructions for the rubber grip with inserts. :-(

Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks!

Look at the bottom of the grip you will find a screw. Remove the screw and pull the grip off (Hogue). If yours have the side screw take the screw out then tap on your hand and they should pop off.

It's the side screw type.. I've pulled and pulled, it won't come off. I'm hesitant to take more drastic measures since it's a wood grip and all. I can see the grip is made from two pieces of wood, but I don't know if they're supposed to separate like the wood grip inserts on the standard rubber grip.

With the screw out hold the gun by the grip in your strong hand, secure the gun in your weak hand (to keep from dropping it) and use a little twisting motion to see if the 2 panels are simply stuck together.

Or remove the screw, then place it back in the hole an tap it ever-so-gently to see if it'll break the off-side grip free.

If something breaks or you drop the gun ..... it's all your fault for trying.

Ok, the grips do not "pull off" in any way shape or form.

With the rubber grip and wood/plastic inserts, there is a pin/rod that helps locate the insert. That pin has to be pushed out to remove the rubber grip. Well on the all wood grips, that pin is still there, but there's no way to push it out... So..

The grip is two pieces.

To remove this grip, take the screw out. Then using a punch or pretty much any metal rod that will fit through the screw hole at an angle.. put the rod in the hole at an angle and gently tap the rod to split the two sides of the grip apart.

Using the screw thread it in a turn or two and tap the protruding head with a rubber or plastic hammer. That should start to separate the halves. A thin punch or rod should also work as suggested above but the screw is already there and won't damage the threads in the bushing if you thread it in a couple of turns.

That is the way you have to remove most S&W stocks/grips. ...or you can use a box cutter blade to separate the halves.
