Howdy all. Hey can I swap out the hammer on a SA/DA SP for a DAO hammer? I prefer the smooth DAO hammer to a bobbed SA/DA hammer. If I can come up with the DAO hammer,do I need to do any spring changes to account for the lighter hammer? Thanks a million.

I traded with someone on here years ago and the hammers swapped just fine with no changes. My very talented gunsmith friend told me it was likely a direct parts swap as well.

AFAIK, replacement springs don't (or at least didn't then) differentiate between the two hammer types. It was just spring weight. I went with a lighter spring before the swap from DAO to spurred hammer and the primer strikes looked the same to me with both hammers. Posts on here helped me decide how light of a spring was prudent. The information was spot on.

Hope this helps.

ETA: I went the other direction, from factory DAO to spurred hammer, and used the lighter spring for a while before the swap to the spurred hammer. The lighter spring weight was the lowest people on this forum were recommending for reliable use.

I bobbed the hammer on my SP101 years ago when my wife started keeping it on her side of the bed. I only wanted her to be able to fire it DA. I could stll esily shoot it SA by pulling the trigger slightly and then cocking it.
I bought a standard hammer from here a couple years ago and kept it with the factory box, grips, etc. I just installed it this month with no problems, easy drop in part. I have sent my SP to Mag-Na-Port for adjustable sights, etc and wanted the regular hammer on it. After the install I dry fired it quite a bit and saw no marks or anything to indicate a bad fit.
