I've been looking around for a used 3 1/16" SP101 in .357.

Trying to find an older gun with pre-MIM parts.

I've noticed the frames differ a bit from the older to newer guns---looks like the area right behind the cylinder on the left side is different.

Are there any improvements in the newer generation guns [frames] that might offset my MIM apprehension?

Thanks in advance.

The main difference is the frame window got bigger after the first .357s were built so they could have a longer cylinder for the heavier bullets. The early .357s were limited to 125gr bullets only (and are marked that way on the barrel).

Ruger made their name with high quality castings, I'd trust their MIM parts before most others.

There are no problems with the MIM parts other than the fact that they are smoother and won't cut you. The ejector has been upgraded as well as the firing pin guide. All improvements IMHO.
