Finally found my sp101 yesterday at the Fayetteville gunshow !!!!

First or second yr. 38 spc. 3" barrel .

Before cleaning & IBOKing

Did`n`t even fire it or measure the pulls.

Smoothed out nicely & needs more work on SA creep but very serviceable with stock springs !!!

Good looking gun! I've never had an SP in the 3" but one of those might make a great compliment to my 3" GP.

The 3" SP has been among my very favorite revolvers for several years. I'd like to have a matching 3" GP. Hey, all it takes is money!
Congrats on a great revolver.

I'll tell ya that I had a 38 SPNY just a bit older 570-40150 had the smoothest slickest action of any revolver on the planet..
Congrats GP100man..
I've had several SP101s & the 3 1/16" shot the best over the 2 1/4" in 38spl. 357mag & 9mm..
I'm gonna get me another GP & SP , The older ones before the MIM parts to keep until I die..

Thanks fellers !!!

This was a double good deal !!!

I shed a Tauras I thought I wanted & only lost $25 on the Tauras.

Anyways range report pending !!

nice pair.....I love the SP.... have the 3" .357 in the 571 series myself.

you need to change the date tagger in your camera?

Good find, esp. in 3".

I bought a fairly beat up short barrel one in 38SP several months ago and gave it a makeover. It was very tight, just needed some cosmetic tlc.

That gun is a real shooter, especially with 38-44S&W equivalent handloads. In fact, it seeems to shoot better with 38-44 loads than it does standard 38SP. If you are a handloader and have Brian Pearce's article on 38-44S&W loads in Handloader #243, I can definitely recommend his load using a 125 JHP (he used Speer, I used Rem and now Hornady) and lots of Power Pistol. I can keep those pretty close to in the black of a 25 yd slow fire pistol target shot at 50 yards from an elbow rest, and they are stepping right on out smartly from even that short barrel. Should be impressive from a 3" one.

Thanks again fellers , it was the first 3" in 38 I`ve seen in these parts , so it had to come home !!!

The date thing is da yungens rob my batterys & I just don`t take the time to set it .

now if you could just score an original early model .357, 125 gr only..... or do you already have one of those too?

is loving the oldies just an age related thing, or is there really something about the quality. I lean to the older models myself.... but then, considering age, I do remember Elvis's first appearance on t.v. (even if I was still barely potty trained at the time)

GP100man share the IBOK on the SP/GP with me Sir..
I might learn something!! Maybe!! HaHa!!
I had one perticular SP101 so slick & smooth that Mark Morganti at Gemini Customs wondered what I had done to it..I'd just stoned it & shimmed the hammer, hammer dog & trigger & put a set of wolff springs in it + removed a few burs & smoothed it up..
It had him impressed & he's a perfectionist..
Were taking SMOOTH!!

Love these threads about the older SP/GP Rugers..
BTW I saw a SPNY on GunsAmerica today in Indiana for $439.95 a 570-***** gun
38spl matte finish 38spl SPNY DAO, Go have a look if your interested, In decent shape for an old NYPD carry revolver IMO..
The last one of these I bought I paid $175. Man I should have stock piled these things back when those New SKSs were $69ea.

I have an SP101 with the 2.25" barrel but would love to have a 3". I'm still not satisfied with the DA trigger, though. I also have a 6" GP 100 and would love to have a 4". There's no end to this, is there?

LOL, I'm in the same boat. I love them both but, wouldn't mind having the other two.
