I just purchased a used SP101 today ( 2.50inch, 357mag manufactured in late 2009). The gun is very clean and looks to be very well maintained with few loads put through it. It seems there is some rattling when shaking the gun coming from a loose hammer block, that contacts the firing pin??? In single action mode u can insert your finger between the hammer and the firing pin and the block moves very easy. Is this normal, or did someone have the gun apart and failed to put it together correctly? Thanks Guys!!!!!

Sounds like the transfer bar. It's a safety feature that prevents firing pin hits without the trigger pulled back fully.

Yep ... what he said.

If you buy a GP100 it will rattle too.

All guns with transfer bars rattle..
A dab of grease can be put on it to keep it quiet..

Dan Wesson used a spring to tension their transfer bar..
If you look at a modern DA Ruger you'd know they were looking very hard at the Dan Wessons, Note how the trigger assembly removes & the grip frame plus the forward latch etc..

Thanks for the fast info guys, I just was unsure if the gun was safe or what. I can't believe that a revolver would rattle like that, I don't remember my old security six doing that stuff.
