I've been a S&W fan for many, many years so I'm new to the world of Ruger DA revolvers. Can someone give a quick breakdown of both models if I was looking at a SS 4" 357 with adjustable sights . In looking at the Ruger website, it looks like a K frame vs. N frame in the S&W world. Any other notable differences other than weight and frame size? Thanks and sorry for the beginners question, but you've got to start somewhere, right?

SP101- 5 shot unless 22LR or 327 Mag, smaller and meant for concealed carry, fixed sights

GP100- 6 shot, large frame revolver, and can be had with adjustable sights.

There are other differences but those are the major differences.

BDD, welcome to the forum. The main difference is the weight. The GP is heaviest with a 6 shot cylinder, whereas the SP is a 5 shot cylinder, and is lighter. I have a SP(3 inch barrel non-adjustable sights) now, and had a GP with adjustable sights, and 4 inch barrel that I sold (drat it). Both are shooters. SP's with the 4 inch barrel have adjustable sights. You will enjoy either. I am supposing that you will be getting them in .357 magnum, though they can be had in .327 Federal also.

Redhawk = N Frame size

GP100 = L Frame size

Security/Service/Speed Six = K Frame size

SP101 = Colt Detective size ~ larger than a J Frame
