Reminds me of a good friend and shooting buddy. Last time we met at the entrance to the outdoor range, Bob opened his truck door and tossed what from a distance, looked to be a length of hose into the woods adjacent to the gate. I questioned him, and learned that on that sorta cool morning on the way there, he saw a black snake sunning in the road. Knowing that some folks have a habit of running over any snake they get a chance to kill just because, he stopped and picked the old fella up. Carried it in his lap, with its head carefully restrained, the rest of the way to the range entrance and let it go. This man also shoots rabbits in his suburban yard, cleans and freezes them for the dinner table. Growing up in Florida, he and his brother caught snakes to sell to a local reptile zoo. Retired Cold War era Air Force, the man knows his stuff. Glad to call him a friend. Don.

They are great to watch. I had one that practically lived in the maple tree by the house. Unfortunately I had to cut it down. Haven't seen him/her since. Had one come through the yard last summer. I made sure he went into the back yard garden area before the next door neighbor saw it. She is scared of all snakes and goes after any she sees with a hoe. That was only one I have seen in a couple years.

It's pretty amazing how that snake could control those muscles and ribs to climb up the side of that chimney. I didn't know the tree was so close. I figured you'd just grab him and throw him into the tree. :wink:

I'm glad you're not one of those people that thinks all snakes need to die just for being a snake.

I don't do you-boob. But I assume by the responses,, you found a black snake in the chimney.
Not an uncommon thing in my work. Black snakes possess the ability to climb vertical surfaces. In the wild,,, they eat birds, eggs, squirrels bats etc out of nests & dens. God gave them the ability to climb like that. (Oh, and they don't mind living with people too, as long as the people don't harass them.)

I've found snake skins in chimneys but never a snake. That one attempted to get through the screen of the rain cap but was really wanting to get up in the tree. I can't quite figure out why it just did not climb the tree.... I probably should not have messed with nature... but was so inclined. And since we all do intentionally or not, what the heck. I grew up killing any snake that came along... now I reserve that to pretty much copper heads.

Contender.. yep, a black snake... pretty sure a king snake but not in the chimney but climbing up the side... and then trying to get up in the tree about about 8ft away.... so I pulled a limb over to beside the chimney so it could climb on up. Here's a picture of when I first saw it:

Great picture! I tell folks all the time how they can climb up walls & such! I just never remember to get my camera & get a picture of one.
