Since arriving here there are a lot of cane toads in the northern areas of Australia and Queensland tops the cake.
Ugly looking things and very poisonous to animals such as dogs cats snake's lizards hell everything that tries to eat them. They also spray their poison on you which is dangerous.So there are a lot of ways to get rid of them. I choose to walk up behind them and put a lump of lead in the back of their heads.
My son catches them and throws them into the middle of the road so the cars can run over them.(messy)
The most chosen way to kill these critters/pest by the kids living up here is to play golf with them YES golf you just take your wood iron and I don't need to fill you in any more. They grow to about 5 inches tall although I have not seen one that big as yet.

I think in Hawaii they use caffeine to kill tree frogs so maybe you could try offering those toads some espresso to go.

Your methodology is sound, keep up the good work, a bullet works every time that it is tried. The golfing method sounds good too; ah heck, it all sounded good, even the messy method.

Cane toads are an introduced species, competing with native species and, as noted, killing anything that tries to eat them. Think of them as toxic starlings or poisonous Asian carp. If the toads could be wiped out, it would return things to their previous balance.

The golf club method doesn't sound that good to me. When I was a kid our lawn was plagued with snails. You could usually find a dozen or so oozing their way across our lawn in the morning. My Dad came up with the great idea of practicing his golf swing on them.

I did find one "no no" with that idea though...don't use a sand wedge.
