Buyers market. Bid no more than you are willing to pay then watch as the idiots enter. I have been looking at a well worn Bearcat box that is, IMHO, priced way too high. Just curious to see if anyone actually buys it. I know I won't.

People get caught up in the bidding. It's a contest and an ego trip.
I frequent the national Goodwill website where they auction off everything they can.
I go specifically for lap steel guitars.
People go nuts.
Over 1/2 the time an old used and rather beat up guitar will be sold
for more than it cost new.

I worked with an auctioneer some time ago. If there was something that we felt would go for a big price I would get a 'high sign' and start raising the bid. When it was to the point that $$ was where they wanted I would get another 'notice' to drop out and let the remaining bidders battle it out. It is amazing what people will get caught up in when bidding.

Yup, some of the auctions go way overpriced. Even some ad I've seen lately for stuff with a set price or some of the "buy it now" set priced auctions on eBay are mind-boggling. There's currently a military trailer on eBay that someone converted into an "expedition" trailer by adding a camper shell to it and a couple of accessories on and inside it. You can pick up these trailers for between $700 and about $1500 at government auctions or off of ads on Craigslist etc. I'm sure the total investment in this thing is about $3000 - $3500 max. The asking price? $22,500!! But, as someone once pointed out to me it only takes one nut with money that decides he wants that particular thing to make the seller's day. Also, is it crazy to ask $22,500 for this? No, what's crazy is paying $22,500 for it.

The true value of anything and everything is what somebody will pay for it. If that trailer sells for $22,500 it is worth every penny.

Back in the 1980`s I regularly had tables at gun shows in California. I dropped out and haven't been to too many since. Today I went to one. Things have changed a lot. Now its mostly the black plastic stuff. Only about maybe 5 or 10% of the old classics that I used to deal in. People must be sitting on most of what I call classics. It`s a little aggravating to see what turns on the newbie`s now days. Most have "no class".
