This is one of those things that I'll never know who made it, or when. There's zero markings on it. The pattern suggests maybe Native American, or it could just as easily suggest Native American Sofa Upholstery, I don't know. The leather is cracked and crazed, but it looks like someone took some time with it. It holds six .45 Colt or .44 Special cartridges. It's an almost perfect fit for an N-Frame Smith and Wesson with a 5- or 6-inch barrel. That's a 5-inch Model 25-7 in it right now, by the way.
It isn't something you'd seriously consider using on a daily basis. The leather is too old, you could probably tear it like cardboard if you wanted to. The belt size is small, like for a woman or a young person.
I picked it up the other day, simply because it has a bit of charm for me, for lack of a better word. The anonymity of the maker and the unknown time of its making appeals to me. And it has such an old musty odor to it, when I let my dogs inside, it took them less than ten seconds to find the thing on the table. It's probably just junk, but it makes a good photograph.
Just thought you might like to see it.
