I took this photo about ten years ago, this is the Hudson River during an ice jam. The ice was only a couple of feet from the bottom of the bridge I was standing on. The sound of all that ice cracking and creaking was eery to say the least.

This picture was taken in North Creek, NY at a bridge called The Glen, it was about 15 minutes from where I lived at the time. It was the worst ice flow they had in years at that spot. Every year the ice backs up and breaks up some but not like this. It had blocked parts of the road on both sides of the river. It was so bad on the right side that there was a side road where the ice came up next to a woman's house and shoved her car off the road from where she parked it into the river. To this day that car to my knowledge was ever found. From its normal level to where it is in this picture the ice was about 20 feet above where it normally would have been.
