Spotted this little guy on the garage wall the other night. A solifugid, or wind scorpion, or sun spider, or Camel spider. Not poisonous, but have a helluva bite.

My nephew in the USAF brought a dead one (in jar of formaldahyde) home from Afghanistan. He said they had a wickedly nasty bite. Said that the guys shook out their sleeping bags and boots daily.

WTH? Are those native? Keep them up there please.
Oh, they are here in the Verde Valley.
Never been bit (yet) but I've seen them in both Cottonwood & Camp Verde.
Nothing like sitting on the garage floor working on a project and seeing one of them or a scorpion coming at ya.

" Everything out here will stab ya, stick ya or bite ya"

We were hunting javelina down below Tucson and a buddy came into camp real disgusted. Pulled up his pants leg and had some nice yucca stab wounds. Said (in a REALLY thick Cuban accent) "This is a helluva country down here. Everything bites==even the plants!".

AAAHHHHH!!!!! Sun Spiders!! Delightful little critters. Some species have bigger jaws (up to 50% of total body length). Those buggers eat scorpions. They threaten them and then rum around and grab them under the tail. They are that fast. If you scare them, they do what we call an Israeli Death Dance==they spin in a 6" circle while moving in a larger circle (about 5 ft in diameter). We were snake collecting one night and found one. I said "Watch this" (No, I didn't say "here, hold my beer") and stomped down next to it. Next thing I know, my buddy, his wife and teen-age son were sitting on the hood of my Toyota!
