Not necessarily a "waste of a tax stamp," as the owner also has a set of 11-inch barrels fitted to that receiver. Still, given how little gun he has left to hang on to with the three-inch barrels installed . . . I sure wouldn't want to fire it. :shock: :roll: :lol:

I would expect recoil wouldn't be too bad as most of the powder would ignite AFTER everything left the barrel. Flash and noise would be intimidating (?). Advantage: concealability and mobility==cutting a barrel doesn't increase spread all that much.

I shot a 12ga with sixteen inch barrel and a pistol grip. The first two shots
I had my wrist firmly in my gut and it was no problem. Some dummy let
his wrist get away from his gut on the third one and my wrist quit hurting
in about a week. - - - Needless to say, the regular stock went back on
that night and I threw out the pistol grip. :roll:

Who wants a 12 gauge derringer? Not me - I'm looking for a 10 gauge 3-1/2 incher!

Last summer, a kid (20-something) showed up at the gun club with one of those pistol-grip vertical-forearm short-barrel shotguns and wanted to shoot it. We took him over to the skeet field and quickly convinced him that it's better to actually hit something than it is to look intimidating. He never even finished the round..... something about his wrist bothering him as I recall.

Yep, I've got a pistol grip 12gage Mossberg with short barrel and when you shoot that thing it's like someone hitting you in the arm with a baseball bat....

Nope, I would take a Coach Gun any day, and fire buckshot out of it. A Coach Gun is about as short of a shotgun that I would fire.

Back when I was in my early 20's a guy I worked with cut a stock at the pistol grip of a single shot 12 ga. and cut the barrel off somewhere below the forearm. It looked like an old flintlock pistol with the exception of the hammer and lever used to break it open. He had sanded and Tru Oiled everything and it really looked fairly good. He was also afraid to shoot it. So........ he asked me. I checked it out, deemed it safe enough, locked up tight......and asked for a shell. He gave me a high brass #4 and hid behind a tree. I found a target, loaded and shot one handed. It really wasn't bad at all. I fired it three more times and stopped, half expecting the police to show up at any time. I obtained possession of the barrel and took it to a friend of mine who worked at the Iron Works who cut the barrel down, threaded the inside, put a bolt in there and then welded it in. He drilled a hole and I had a miniature cannon. Fixed​ it so it would mount on a piece of channel iron. I shot a lot of black powder, used paper towels greased up with some stuff I have in my possibles bag, some .25 inch aluminum balls covered with another wad of paper. Used a CVA fuse and ran like he LL behind the nearest big tree when I lit it. Oh to be young and seemingly bullet proof again!

I shoot a Mossberg 500A with 18 1/4" barrel and hogue rubber pistol grip
Don't find it bad at all to shoot

I can shoot it one handed with no issue
Typically will shoot 100 rounds

Years ago, a deputy friend of mine had an Ithica Bankers Special 20 ga. Double barrel 2 triggers and extractors with 12 inch bbl and pistol grip. Yup, it was made that way and he had his papers all in order. It was a handful! :mrgreen:
