Ammo shortage? We ain't got no stinking ammo shortage.

Powder, Primers, Bullets and Brass enough for a couple hundred rounds each of .30-30 and .30-06; a couple thousand rounds each of .223, .357, .44 Mag, and .45 Auto; and about 3,000 rounds of .22 LR on hand.

3,000 rounds of .22? Not too long ago I'd shoot that on a typical Sunday morning before lunch.

I remember when the bulk 22 boxes of 500 were $4.00 at Walmart. Not even that many years ago. It was easy to shoot a thousand rounds per trip to the range.

The last time I bought 22’s Cabelas was selling an ammo can full of them. I think there are 1600 in the can. But I can’t remember what I paid, although it was more than $12. :(

I never saw them that cheap, but I bought a LOT of them between $9 and $11 per 500 between about 2005 and 2008 or 09. I still have quite a few! I don't think I've bought .22s since they went over $12/500.

Neither have I, IIRC 8.25 for a 550 box seems to be the cheapest I have found, that goes way back!
Still have some of those. 22's are always in stock at my house. ps

Sorry to hear you are so light on supplies.

Maybe I’m miss-remembering. It was back in 2005. The Wal-Mart in Renton Washington, south of Seattle. Might have be $8 a box. I was shooting indoors in Bellevue, and had just bought my second gun, a Browning Buckmark. So I was shooting lots of 22 at the time.

The Fed, and the Govt are about to dump north of $ 5 Trillion in "stimulus" into the US economy; So from this day forward ask not what $100 will buy you. Ask instead, what 100 rounds of ammunition will buy you.

I have been off the "gold standard" and on the "brass and lead standard" for years.

I've got about 1,000 rounds for each caliber. 12,000+ 22LR (have to keep grandson supplied). Only a couple hundred 458 Win Mag if I survive those I'll load more. Going to load up some more 458 SoCom. I think that will be my go to gun in case the neighbors try to invade.

That's a nice little start you have there.

Yep a nice start. Maybe we on the Forum need to take up a collection so you can be well prepared in these troubled times.
Primers come in a sleeve of 5000 for a reason. That allows you to load a sleeve of EACH caliber. :D :D :D :D :D

I have shot 1000’s of bxs 50 22LR, Mohawk, Lightning bought at 50 cents bx in early/mid 70’s. I am living proof you cant wear a 10/22 out.
Went to an auction a month bak. Gentleman died and Family sold his reloading supplys and equip. Impressive!! Took 8hrs to sell. Absolutely impressive!!

I'm wondering how many 38 rounds fit in a 5 gallon bucket. Not that I know anyone with such a bucket of course. I sold all my ammo years ago after the boating accident where my paltry few guns were lost.

3,000 22lr? As others said that ain't nothing
2 outings with a friend and those 3,000 are gone

I stopped counting my 22lr when it hit over 100,000
No joke
Also shoot 357, .38, 9mm, 7.62x39, 7.62x54r with some I lost track of the amount

Now some may ask why so much?
Because a martial law of the land AMMO will be the standard of barter and trade
Forget the visa and master card, forget the debit card
Cash & ammo...……….

You don't prepare ahead of time - you get left behind

This thread kind of makes me feel bad. The OP wwb was trying to make a statement he is ready for the next ammo shortage.

I just bought some primers, the ammo store had plenty of everything. BUT, as I was paying, I was talking with the one clerk who knows about reloading. He said, it is an election year. And I’m sure we all remember what happened last time.

This also bothers me But I’m not sure why...

For starters it’s doom and gloom. But also, how heavy is 100,000 rounds of 22LR? Certainly more than any one person could carry. So what good does that much do? People here talk about bug out bags. I assume they mean just stuff to carry or put in a truck. I doubt 100,000 rounds of ammo would fit in the back of a Ford F-150.

But I just don’t see modern civilization reverting back to a lawless system anytime soon.

Just my humble opinion.... And I’m glad to see wwb and all others are prepared for what they need.

Glad to know I'm not the only one. The OP was saying he was what he felt, well prepared for his own personal situation. Most of the post have been to blast him for not having more stockpiled and to brag on how much they themselves have stashed. It's like a fishing story, the more post, the more ammo they have. I see why the post count are down. Just my two cents worth. B32

When people are smug, others want to take them down a notch. Being smug is like being a bully. Insulting and confrontational. So I understand the responses.

The OP got what he deserved for being smug. I know it is just an attempt at being funny. I just thinking admitting to being smug set the tone for the thread.

He could have opened with. I know others have more, but I think I’m in an ok position. The responses would have been more supportive. It’s an interesting study on human behavior, but the OP sets the tone.

I’m glad everyone feels prepared for the impending apocalypse.

This time next year I’ll be posting a picture of my 10,000 N95 masks and how they are going to be the new money.

Well Just to make my post perfectly clear. I WAS TRYING TO BE FUNNY maybe I failed. No way would I try and insult a member on this Forum for what they posted just because of one word.
I'm not a Shrink so no way did the word smug offend me or did I take it to be offensive.

Some of you need to lighten up IMHO. No need to call in the PC Police. I thought most of the threads were poking FUN. But what do I know???
Besides I'm more interested in how many rolls of Toilet Paper you have for the emergency. Since I have been told by very smart people that "I'm Full Of It" I need to have more than most :D

I just found some TP today after 3 weeks. I was just about to put an ad on Craigslist, "Will swap .22LR ammo for toilet paper."

But seriously, I recall reading back in the '70s (perhaps in Mel Tappan's Survival Guns, I dunno) that "If a complete societal collapse occurs, .22LR ammo might well become the closest thing we have to a standard currency of trade." I've never forgotten that, and have made it a point to try to keep a good supply on hand at all times.

I was the same as you Jim.
