I know this is not a Ruger question I am hoping someone can help I picked up a smith 38-44 today and am trying to find a production date for it serial number 63xxx thanks

Howdy

If I am reading my SCSW correctly, the 38/44s were numbered concurrently with the 44 Hand Ejectors. SN 35037-62483 were produced from 1931 until 1941. To get a more exact answer than that, try asking your question on the S&W Forum.

Driftwood is correct. You have a Heavy Duty if fixed sights; Outdoorsman if target sights. The only way to tell when it was shipped is to get a letter from S&W; $50. But on the fourm you will hear from 38-44 owners who have lettered their guns and those with serial numbers near yours can give you an estimate of when yours shipped or date-of-birth as they call it. Recognize however, guns were not assembled or shipped in serial # order.

Send the gun to me and I will research it for you and get back to you in a reasonable period of time. Robert
