Single Six hammer screw question

I posted pics of my 3 screw Single Six in a previous thread. It's new to me, and I noticed when cleaning it, the hammer screw in the frame was loose about 1 1/2 turns. I snugged it up, but after shooting about 300 rds over the last week I noticed it's loose again about 1 1/2 turns.
Is there an internal "stop" that I'm overlooking? Locktite blue?

Yes the blue, or clear nail polish. How does it shoot? Range report ?

A small piece of monofilament fishing line, about 20# or so, jammed in the threads works great. Trim the excess with a small flame. Poor Boy's Threadlocker.

It shoots great! After cleaning the 40yrs of dust, dirt & gun oil out of it, I took it to the range and sighted it standing at 50ft. The gun shoots dead-on point of aim.
It's a hell of alot more accurate than I am.

good info above, and the remedy to "fix", is the screw is too tight in the hole of the hammer ,OR rust build up, clean out the hammer hole, polish the screw and the' unscrewing' will stop, yes maybe even a drop or two of Kroil on the screw "inside the hammer" may help....we see this on guns that have 'sat' for years and year...old oil (dried out) in the mating surfaces will 'bind' and 'drag'....................

I just pulled it apart and the unthreaded shoulder which the hammer rides on is rough. I polished it smooth but would like to replace the screw... where would you recommend ordering one from??

Call Ruger or Brownell's website. Brownell's is usually quicker on their shipping.

You're right Dan, I forgot the Old Army isn't made any more (uses same screw). Thanks!

I think I need to rip the gun apart and look at the inside of the hammer pivot hole, there must be a reason that the shoulder of the screw is buggered up!

My Super is 42 years old and is the first handgun I ever bought. Paid 78.00 for it. Took it to the range today and while cleaning noticed the screw on mine was also backed out.

Drop of oil down each side of the hammer in line with the hammer screw. About 45 years ago I bought my 2nd gun, a slightly used 44 flat top (my 1st was a super single six) for $85 with Hunter holster and belt.

if the shoulder is burred, boogered, (rough) the hammer can unscrew the screw given time...take the hammer out and polish BOTH mating surfaces (the screw shoulder & the hammers pivot 'hole'....)
